Mutiple Interior Noises

Hello, I have a 2016 Ford Fusion SE W/ Ecoboost. I have had the vehicle back numerous times for interior noises. I have been told they were fixed, or on most occasions, could not be replicated. I have identified a rattle in the headliner where the center panel lights are located. I also have stressing sounds and cracking coming from the center console around the shifter and a fast vibration in both front doors that seem to be the door panel padding at the window. But what I cannot seem to identify is a weird rubbing sound coming from between the front and rear doors on both sides. Its almost like the sound of leather on leather. It only occurs at low speeds. I am dropping the car off at the dealer for an entire week. I would like to point them in the right direction as it is frustrating to have to keep going back.

Old thread, but related to my topic. While I was on a trip to Denver, the car developed an annoying rattling noise from the lower passenger door area. It sounded like two thin pieces of metal rattling, so I thought it was a part of the window mechanism. I noticed that it only rattled at certain speeds and was a constant sound regardless of bumps or speed. I shook the door and didn't hear anything, then I started looking for loose rubber seals, molding and body parts around and under the car. As I was walking to my car the other day, I noticed the plastic inner wheel well liner was slightly separated from the edge of the body and the plastic plug had come out slightly. I pushed the plug back in and it seems to have solved the problem. How it wiggled out is a mystery, we had a lot of rain and I drove on the interstate in a heavy rain storm, so water may have got behind the liner, but problem solved and partial sanity restored.

I have experienced a squeaky noise coming from the lower passenger door. I have tried to press down on bunch of parts to see where the noise comes from. It seems pressing down on the shiny plastic panel that holds the window buttons helped. Nothing seems to loose.

 

In general, I feel the car interior just rattles a lot, even compared to the old Pontiac Grand Prix I have. I don't know if it is a general problem with Ford Fusion or I just have a bad one.

Well, the noise is back at speeds over 65-70 mph, which make me believe it's something under the car, or a panel. I'm taking it in next week.

Other than the rattle that appeared after 10,000 miles, my Fusion has been rattle free and a very quiet ride. There's always a chance you got a car that a screw or two wasn't tightened to spec, but I don't think Fusions are any more prone to rattles than any other vehicle.

I have the same model. I have 15K miles on it so far. I have run across a noise or two, nothing like you describe. One noise was being caused by a loose item in the glove box sounded like a vibration in the dash and only rattled at certain speeds. The other one was caused by the metal on the passenger side seat belt knocking against the seat and door. Sounded like it was in the door. It was hard to figure out. Fixed it by pulling out the belt and having it retract all the way slowly.

 

I would not be surprised if there were some loose panels under the car. I am amazed at the number of "soft" panels being held on by little screw on clips. I had never noticed them before. I rotated my tires this weekend and was under the car checking things out and took note of them. Those soft panels do not like deep water. Ran through a flood in my 2014 and it ripped one of them right off.

Hey timwil56, so what was the issue? My '14 Titanium EB had the same rattle at the same speeds and would love to hear what the solution was.

Responded to your PM, but for those playing at home: I haven't found out yet. I'm planning on taking it to the Quick Lane for an oil change in a 2-3 weeks and I will ask the tech to look under the car for anything loose, if he doesn't find anything I'll make an appointment for service. I'll let you know.
