con_fusion
My Fusion started showing me the oil pressure light last week as I was going through a car wash. It would only come on when coming to a stop and idling. I took it in at that time since I needed an oil change anyway. They couldn't find anything wrong. Went all last week with no light. This morning, the oil pressure light came back. This time consistently on when stopped at a light but then it would go off when increasing RPM slightly. Took the car right to the dealer this morning. They told me the oil pressure switch is bad and needs to be replaced. They will have the part in the morning. Good news that it appears to be just a sensor gone bad but another part that seems to have gone bad early with this car. con_fusion
They replaced the pressure switch but the light is still on which is not good. Further diagnostics coming...
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Certainly hope its not internal to the engine like rod bearings or oil pump or ... Def update as available!
con_fusion
They are telling me the pressure is verified low when idling, guess they used a guage to measure pressure. So, they are suspecting the oil pump although they said it is very rare to have the pump go bad with only 83K miles. I had purchased an extended warranty through the dealer so they are working with the warranty administration to decide on next steps. The approximate costs (if not under extended warranty) would be $300 for the oil pump and $1600 labor. Ouch! Anyone have any suggestions what else it could be, service department didn't seem 100% sure the pump was the issue. Car has been well maintained. con_fusion
So I have an extended warranty through a 3rd party company purchased through the dealer. Essentially, since the dealer is not 100% sure the oil pump is the issue, the warranty company wants them to tear down the engine to the point of failure. Which may or may not be the oil pump or beyond. I guess since I have the coverage I should just ride this out but I'm wondering how well everything will go back together once they find the problem. I hate having dealership mechanics completely taking the engine apart. Even after this episode, I still have the ongoing 6F35 transmission wonkiness. If I ask them to make me an offer for the car (just sell it to them) how much might they deduct? They could do the repairs wholesale and then possibly sell it themselves but maybe they wouldn't want to go through that much effort. If anyone has a thought on that, let me know. Thanks
con_fusion
After what seems like forever... They have done a teardown on my engine and did not find any wear or scarring issues with any of the bearings etc. they are replacing the oil pump. What sucks is they probably had to tear it down farther than the oil pump (at the request of the warranty company) to prove the "point of failure". I hope it all goes back together ok. Unfortunately, as far as issues, this has been the "worst" car I've ever bought new.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Wonder how much it cost to do the teardown. Shoulda just given you a new block ... ugh.
con_fusion
I finally got my Fusion back. They replaced the oil pump as well as doing additional inspection for wear on the bearings etc. per the warranty company. Total would have been about $2200 if I hadn't had the extended warranty. Although if I had paid for it we probably would have saved a bit on the additional labor and been more like $1800. So far the car is driving good. No oil pressure light. Lots of gaskets and seals replaced so I shouldn't have any leaks anywhere. We'll see how it goes.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
what warranty did they give you on this work? Ford will typically not "warranty" the work done under warranty, basically it would be till the warranty runs out.
