ShaneD39
So I currently have a 2014 fusion 2.0 ecoboost with about 47k miles on it. I was away for basic training the past 6 months and obviously havent driven it. I told my dad to go over and start it up every now and again and drive it. Long story short, the issue I am having is whenever I first got home and Started my car, it was having a rough time starting, and some sort of power save mode notification came up. As of now, it doesn't do that anymore, but the problem Im having now, once I start up my car and start driving, immediatly it will start stuttering and just die out as im driving the car. Everything is still lit up inside the too, Put some new fuel in ( there was about half a tank of fuel in it when I returned home on 12-16-2016 ) because I don't think my dad even put any in since he didnt drive it that much probably. Does anyone know what the issue could probably be? Like I said, its pretty much just been sitting in my driveway since iv been gone. thanks guys. Oh and I live in Pennsylvania where its currently cold. Edited December 20, 2016 by ShaneD39
drolds1
Welcome home and welcome to the forums. I'm guessing that you didn't put stabilizer in the fuel before you left and now its a case of deteriorated fuel and moisture from sitting with half a tank outside in the change of seasons. The power save notification is due to low charge on the battery. Did your dad actually drive the car on a regular basis? It doesn'r sound like it. For this amount of downtime, you're better off just letting the car sit with a battery maintainer hooked up and a full tank of fuel with fuel stabilizer. I'd put some fuel treatment/water remover in a full tank, such as, HEET, charge the battery and keep trying to get it to run. If it drives, keep driving and putting new fuel. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Welcome, Shane, and thank you for your service Good suggestions in the post above, also consider replacing the battery, yes, even if it doesn't seem that old, as batteries seem to die a particularly early death in cars these days, and cause a lot of gremlins down the road. Also change the oil and filter immediately. Don't want any gunk in the system clogging up the engine or timing components etc. Have the local auto store pull codes (you can do this yourself also with an OBD adapter + smartphone + software), just to make sure you have the history before making any changes. Have the battery checked with a digital load tester to assess its' condition. If the battery fails, then change the battery and clear the codes. See if the codes come back after driving a few hundred miles. Post the codes here so we can assess severity and advise on resolution. You are unfortunately out of B2B warranty coverage, but the 5/60 powertrain is still in effect, as is the emissions coverage. EDIT: Look through this list of TSBs to see what might apply to/sound familiar to you http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Tsb/Results?Year=2014&Make=54&Model=2816 Recalls etc. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchResults?prodType=V&searchType=PROD&targetCategory=A&searchCriteria.model=FUSION&stats=975776%2C4%2C0%2C99%2C24%2CTAURUS&makeStats=&jsonBaseURL=%2Fdownloads%2Ffolders%2F&searchCriteria.model_yr=2014&searchCriteria.make=FORD&searchCriteria.prod_ids=975776 Edited December 21, 2016 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
