2012 Fusion, SEL w/Sony premium system, no nav screen...

One minute I had volume and the next it muted itself.

The only thing I did is hard line my iphone right after starting the vehicle.

The heater was also off when I started the car?

I've done two master resets and two resets to factory settings and nothing!

Please help!!

I've got the CarMax extended warranty but a $250 deductible that I can't afford right now.

Any ideas guys and gals?

Okay, I plan on pulling it into a heated garage this weekend and will do that.

It's been very cold here and I just started a new job so I haven't been able to really delve into this.

It's my Baby and she can't talk to me ya know?

It's keeping me up at night man!

Yeah

My heater was off again too and when I started it the battery was lagging again.

If I leave my doors open for loading purposes, the dome lights drain the battery.

I just can't believe a battery can go bad in 4 years?

Ha! I never get more than 3 years out of a battery. Modern vehicles have a much different battery load than older vehicles. 4 years is outstanding.

A good friend of mine owns a company that sells batteries.

His guy is delivering one to me tomorrow for free...

Hopefully this will solve my mysterious electrical issues.

The battery in my 2003 Taurus lasted for a lot longer than 3 years so I guess my expectations were a bit high on this Fusion

Also, the battery location plays a part. The Fusion's batter is close to the driver, and probably gets very hot in the summer. That can cause alot of damage that isn't really noticeable until the winter. The Taurus has it's battery right up in front, where it's a bit cooler.

  • 1 month later...

I have a 2011 Fusion Hybrid that's having the same problem.

One day the radio just quit. Unfortunately it's never come back on. The Nav system works. All the media acts as if it's playing on every source (radio, USB, bluetooth, jukebox, etc) but no sound comes out.

I've checked and replaced the fuse for the Sync system but no luck.

I took it to the dealer and after spending $130 for them just to look at it they told me the fix was to replace the whole sync/nav system, which would cost over $1000. Not only do I not want to spend that money, but the entire system appears to be functioning except for getting sound!

After a little troubleshooting it also appears that the volume, media and voice controls on the steering wheel don't work. If I have it on radio and turn the volume knob on the radio, it acts as if it increases volume (but no sound). But from the steering wheel it doesn't do anything.

Is it worth trying replacing the battery?? It seems unrelated as this hasn't been intermittent, but at this point I'd piss on the spark plug if I thought it'd do any good.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Probably not the battery but if it's time for a new one you might give it a shot anyway.

Try pulling the fuse for the radio to reset it. With both the loss of sound and non-responsive controls it does sound like the head unit.

I have a 2012 SEL and had the very same issue as you.

I tried everything I could think of, including peeing on the plugs but alas nothing worked until I replaced the battery.

I tech here told me that the batteries only last a couple years on these vehicles and can cause some really F'd up and strange problems.

Sadly I pulled the fuse and it still wasn't working.

I may try the battery just because it could probably use a new one and on the 1% chance it works some strange voodoo.
