BigAl68
I just purchased a 2016 pre-owned fusion. The car exterior looks fine, but when I run my hand over the car, the, the finish felt gritty, is this common, and is this covered under warranty? zip89105
It's not common. Being used it might have encountered some overspray somewhere. I'm not a detailer, but I would like to believe that could be buffed smooth.
fusionff
Try using a clay bar on a section of the car, that may get the paint nice and smooth again. Of course you would need to wax afterward.
akirby
Ditto on the clay bar. Be sure to follow the directions.
BigAl68
Is this covered under bumper to bumper warranty? BigAl68
fusionff
It probably is just dirt, so warranty would not cover that. Wash, clay bar, & wax it. It should be fine after that. If you can't do it yourself, find a good auto detailer and let 'em at it.
drolds1
Is this covered under bumper to bumper warranty? BigAl68 It depends on what the root cause of the problem is. If it's a factory defect, then maybe. If it's due to environmental causes, then no. Your warranty guide has more information on this: Damage Caused by Use and/or the Environment The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover surface rust, deterioration and damage of paint, trim, upholstery, and other appearance items that result from use and/or exposure to the elements. You, as the owner, are responsible for these items. Some examples are: • dings, dents • cuts, burns, punctures or tears • road salt • tree sap, bird and bee droppings • windstorm, lightening, hail • earthquake • freezing, water or flood • stone chips, scratches (some examples are on paint and glass) • windshield stress cracks. However, limited coverage on windshield stress cracks will be provided for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles (which ever occurs first), even though caused by use and/or exposure to the elements. As stated above, if it's dirt or bonded contaminants, it's your responsibility. Try the clay bar. You haven't said if the gritty feel is all over the car, just on the horizontal surfaces, or just one area? Did you buy the car from a Ford dealer? If so, Is it a CPO vehicle? In this case, you might get some additional consideration from the dealer if you complain. Do you know its history? For instance, was there body damage that required repainting? If it was CPO, you would have received a CARFAX report.
BigAl68
Thanks drolds 1 ,and to everyone who answered my post. My fusion is a certified pre-owned car with a clean carfax. The grit is over the entire car. BigAl68
akirby
I doubt CPO covers paint. Just use the clay bar on a small section and see if it works. If it does that's just surface dirt and your responsibility. If it doesn't then it's probably in the paint and that's between you and the seller or Ford on the CPO warranty.
