bighank
Had the oil filler cap off and a funnel in the filler hole and started the car. Heard and saw small droplets of oil spitting out of the filler hole. First time I ever saw this on any car. Engine is an I4 2.0L turbo. Also seemed to have positive air pressure coming out the oil filler hole. What gives?
akirby
As fordtech pointed out over on BOF it's perfectly normal. You shouldn't remove the filler cap while the engine is running.
nForrest
Let me reiterate, AKIRBY. If you don't won't oil all over your engine compartment, on ANY vehicle, do NOT take off or leave off the oil filler cap while engine is running. My dealership left the cap off after changing oil on my first Fusion. I drove all the way home to find oil dripping out from under my car. Took it back to have them clean the engine and they first tried to blame me for the missing filler cap, (found cap on technician's table). Took a full day to get it all cleaned up.
Rex-blueblood
It's called blow by, and its not a good thing. I have it too, told it's caused by the fact that the piston rings aren't able to seal as well after the engine gets some miles on it because of the turbo. It pushes spent gases pass the rings and puts a positive pressure in the crankcase, which then blows out the oil filler port when opened while the engines running.
