yoderro
Hey guys, This has been happening for about 3 weeks now. After my car runs for about ~3 minutes, this noise (video in link) will continuously happen. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot! Video: https://youtu.be/is1HffMLCk0 Recent work: new brakes, recall work on power steering, replaced coolant pump (don't know terminology). One weird thing to note is that it will temporarily stop whenever I press the gas going into a turn, but then it returns as soon as I am going straight again
sirtanon
Almost sounds like a fan with failing bearings. Could be your blower motor, perhaps.. although I'm only speculating.
drolds1
Almost sounds like a fan with failing bearings. Could be your blower motor, perhaps.. although I'm only speculating. Yes. Is your climate control running when this happens? If it is, shut the fan off and see if the noise stops. Bad CC blower motors are a common issue for this generation of Fusions. Search above under "blower motor" and you'll find plenty of discussions. It's an easy fix. WRT the other issue, did this start to happen after you had the work done on the car? If so, take it back to that shop. If not, you really need to get this looked at. It's a potential safety issue.
yoderro
Thanks for the replies! Unfortunately, it does not stop after I turn off the climate control. It did start happening after I took it in, but probably not soon enough for them to take blame. They're a pretty shady dealership. I do have the issue with the heater noise on low. I've had this since the first month of ownership but the dealership "couldn't hear it" until just after my warranty ran out... shocker.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If you go into a turn WITHOUT pressing the gas, does the noise persist? Does it matter which way you turn? Can you replicate the noise at idle/in park? Has your A/C been evaluated for leaks/proper refrigerant level?
hoopfella
Do you know enough about cars to rule out wheel bearing. My wheel bearing went out pretty fast on my fusion. The turning thing sounds about right, does the sound (from the passenger side of the vehicle) go away when turning right (I.e.) shifting weight towards drivers side of the vehicle?). If so, probably a wheel bearing.
mitch123
I have 2010 Fusion and lately I keep hearing a grinding noise coming from the right front side behind the glove compartment in the engine area whenever I accelerate from complete stop. The noise goes away as I pick up speed, in about 5 to 10 seconds or so. What could this be? Edited March 7, 2017 by mitch123
