Weathertech Floor Mats

Because I have too much free time, a few months ago I posted an exhaustive gallery of photos of three different sets of mats for a 2017 Ford Fusion. The three include:

My notes:
  • Of course the factory OEM carpet mats are worthless. They cover very little.
  • The Ford Accessory mats are real rubber. Luxury. They catch rain/snow slush very well.
  • Weather Tech mats are easy to clean but don't do a thing with water.
  • The best (by far) mat for the driver is the Weather Tech mat. It blows away the others.
  • The best for everything else is the Ford Accessory rubber mats. Look closely and see how the Ford rubber covers more and is much more flexible.
  • The Weather Tech trunk mat is a must. Make sure you get the Hybrid trunk mat for a Ford Fusion Hybrid.
In my car is the best of all worlds. I threw out the passenger and rear Weather Tech mats. I threw out the Ford rubber driver mat.

IMHO the driver mat from Weather Tech is well worth $180 just by itself. Check the photos. It is the only mat (of the three options) that goes up under the pedals (see below).

Husky Floor Liners provide the best protection. First thing I noticed on my 2017 Fusion test drive was the big hump under the drivers thighs on the floor (it was a hybrid - might be different on regular Fusion)

Husky mats are pretty good. Their material is not so hard? However, the drivers mat is not contoured to fit the car as well. That could be dangerous behind the pedal. The laser fit of the Weather Tech is perfect.

How do you get such large pictures in the posts? I try that, and the software gripes about file size. I have to cut them down and get small pictures attached.

Actually, I don't like how big they are!

Yes, you can upload a photo file directly from your computer to a forum post, but it limits the size (and also only shows a tiny preview image that no one will click on).

What I do is..

  • Take photo with phone.
  • Importing the photo from my phone to laptop.
  • Annotate using my Mac Photos app.
  • Export to a file (I select medium size but it comes out huge).
  • Next go to my forum account and upload the image to my forum gallery.
  • I browse to my gallery and click on the photo -- then right click and "Copy Image Location" which puts the URL of the photo in your paste buffer.
  • Go to your post editor and add an image (button down and to left of smiley). Paste in the URL. It's a reference back to the image. You can copy a link to any image on the internet in fact (without copying the image file!)

See how easy :headspin: ?

Here is an image from way way outside this form. The image is not stored by fordfusionforum.com. It's just a link you can click on. The catch is fordfusionforum has no control over the host of this image. If the website hosting this pic goes away -- the picture will not show -- just an error. I link to pictures on this gallery so it will probably last a long time.

I see. Interesting. I went to my gallery to give it a try, but there's nothing in my gallery, nor is there any way to upload photos to the gallery.

No big deal. Not sure what software this forum uses, but it's clearly not the easiest to use, nor very good.

I did edit my post with newly attached photos. Clicking on a thumbnail displays the photo in a dialog.

The forum tools to create a gallery and upload a photo are confusing.

Here is a link to upload a photo. You might have to create a gallery after clicking on it. The whole forum will see your photo in the marquee as a new photo.

Most of use a Photo sharing site to post large pictures in threads. Below is a video on how to use Photobucket, which I use. Not saying it's the best site to use, there are a few others.

Another reason I went with the WeatherTechs is that I could purchase just the front set. I don't know if I need or desire a rear set, and the ones that included rear mats are a single piece "over the hump" style, except for WeatherTech (W313?) which are individual rear mats. I don't like the over-the-hump style.

You buy only the fronts? Ouch.

The OEM rubber mats included as an option on my Fusion ($120) are split into 2 pieces.

Pictures of Weathertech model 449611 front floor mats. They fit well.

Nice floor mats and nice fit. On the other hand, the OEM carpet floor mat is so thin and feels cheap. Is there any replacement carpet floor mat that's a little thicker? The one coming with the car is plain black. I know there is the floor mats made by Ford with a Fusion logo on it. I am not sure whether that's the same carpet as the one comes with the car or not.

Personally I'm done with Weathertech. I've had them for 3 different cars now and many of them get to the point where the edges curl up and expose the area beneath. The trunk mat in my Hybrid is so curled that you can see the carpet floor underneath it and you have to uncurl it if you want to use the 2 inches closest to the opening. Weathertech's solution was to "turn it inside out and put something heavy on it for a while so that it regains it;s "memory""". Tried that and in just a couple days was back to the same again.

I'm also having a hard time cleaning them. Even with my trusted armor-all plastic cleaner I still can't get out many of the stains.

I believe the premium mats are a touch thicker and heavier. But yes, I too noticed the standard floor mats are really low cost / quality.
