New Continental ExtremeContact DW's!

Thanks for the video!

The all-weather extremecontact dws I put on mine a couple years ago work great and I will buy them again. I did notice something odd though - the interstate I drive on was rebuilt about 6 months before I put the dws tires on. It's concrete, and after it cured they ran a grinder over top of it to score the surface, probably to improve traction. The grooves had no effect on the Eagles I had on the car, but the dws tires seem to track the lateral "wiggles" caused by not keeping the grinder parallel with the lane. I noticed this the first day with the dws! I have no idea why this happens, and it's not a big deal; just a little freaky at first.

How worn were the Eagles? That could affect how they railroad into the grooves. The sharper edges on a new tire would hook into them better. Also, certain designs may just fit the width of the grooves better. I have similar issues with the Pirelli Cintarauto P7's on mine.

Were the Eagles symmetric tread? The DW/DWS are asymmetric, so they offer the road plenty of opportunities to do funny things. They are pretty quiet, but other tires are quieter. I don't think Eagles are quieter than the Contis tho.

As far as surface grinding, no way is it to improve traction, it's probably to keep speeds down and annoy the heck out of people. Not to mention provide more business for tire stores. Government. SMH.

The Eagles were a symmetric tread and they were pretty worn out, so that may be why they did not experience the same issue. The asymmetric tread on dws looks kinda crazy - it invoked a "what the hell?" comment from one of my friends. Still love the tires and they track true on asphalt roads.

That's good to hear!

Still love mine too! I was able to get into some more aggressive/spirited driving and they still amaze me.
