hansel
Hello, My car was parked in front of my house and I went for a one week vacation. I came back and started the car and I just cannot shift gears. The shift knob goes back and forth as it's supposed to, however it doesn't change the gear. Also, the N Neutral on the dash looks faded and unreadable. I'm losing my mind. Please help. It's 2014 fusion s on 106k miles. What could be wrong? Can the transmission die just like that? P.S: Check engine light is not on, if that matters. Thank you.
andyross
The shifter is just a multi-position electrical switch these days. It's possible something happened to the switch or the wiring. If the car sat awhile, you could have had squirrels or some other animals cause damage somewhere. Take a close look around to see if there is any obvious damage.
zip89105
Odds are the shifter is broken, not the transmission.
drolds1
I agree that it's probably not the trans itself. Maybe the range selector switch of the transmission control module (TCM) have failed or the wiring circuits to those components have issues. Is your 5/60 powertrain warranty still in effect?
