My $40,000 Mercedes c280 4matic (all wheel drive) has the same noise. At least Ford can hear it! My dealer doesn't. Similar MB loaners have nearly always had the same noise and vibration, but at a slightly different speed. The c300 for '09 seems fine. The dealer told me that all awd cars are more prone to driveline noise. Makes sense, but I still don't like it.

Ihad the same problem on my 08 MKZ. The dealer changed the drive shaft assembly. Unniversal joint was the cause.

08 Ford Fusion SEL AWD 74,500 miles, just changed the front hub bearings thinking the noise was coming from the bearings , noise is still there specially between 30-50mph. Been looking online seeing a lot of problems with the rear drive shaft, could this be my problem also???
