4 cylinder Transmission

I have just come from my local Ford dealer where I tried to have the automatic trans fluid flushed in my 4 cylinder Fusion. This car has the FNR5 trans that calls for a special fluid. After trying to find a compatible fluid with no luck I took the care to my local Ford dealer to have them flush the trans. I was told by the service writer on duty that the trans was not flushable. I asked him why the owners manual recommends a fluid change when it cant be done. He said it was a mistake in the manual. Has anyone been able to change the fluid? Or was the service writer correct?

This is an old thread, but Ford dealers should be able to service the FNR5 automatic transmission (they might have to order the fluid first though). Maybe they can't hook up their flush machine to it, but they should still be able to change the fluid and the filter. If you do it on your own use Motorcraft FNR5 ATF, Mazda M5/M-V ATF, or any other fluid that meets the Mazda M-V specifications. If the Ford dealer still claims incompetence, take it to a Mazda dealer (it's a Mazda transmission anyway). They should be very familiar with this transmission.
