Sade
I currently have a 2013 Ford fusion with a 104,000 miles on it and I took to orielys and they said that the alternator was bad. Is that common for the miles on my vehicle? Thanks Sade

That was possibly not a good thing for the alternator which is located on that side I think it is important that posters declare the history of their vehicle (especially collision damage) when asking for advice here.

What made you take the car to O'Reilly's in the first place? Was the warning light on? Was the battery going dead? Were lights getting dim? These are factors that are important to post when asking questions. WRT alternator life, 104K is certainly not unheard of. howstuffworks.com: Quote ... an alternator is an auto part that cannot last forever. Because there are so many factors that can affect its life, it's hard to say exactly how long an alternator can actually last. It depends on the car, the engine, the conditions in which it's used, how much electrical equipment it's regularly operating and so on. Some cars may lose an alternator at 40,000 miles (64,374 kilometers) while others may continue to operate well after 100,000 miles (160,934 kilometers).

Sade
That was a reply to the first person who responded back. Sorry about that. I took it to orielys so that could test the alternator and it has been having trouble starting for the past couple of weeks. They said it was the alternator but earlier today I disconnected the positive battery cable and the car stayed on. My light are dim and when I get the start the car my radio is off and my lights blink and then come back on
eGuru
The battery should never be disconnected while the car is running as voltage spikes may damage the electronics. How old is your battery. That is more likely what you need - not an alternator.
Sade
Ok. I bought the battery about a year-and-a-half ago.
