GreyhndDad
The Car: 2009 Ford Fusion SEL w/ Moon-n-Tune pkg Sirius satellite radio The issue: 1) How do I (or can I) replace the Sirius tuner with an XM tuner on the factory head unit? I have 2 XM subscriptions and prefer to keep XM. Also, XM has all of the MLB games. Whereas Sirius only carries a few of the games (their selection) on the "Best of XM" pkg. (That's the main reason for the conversion) 2) Can I use the Sirius antenna connection on a portable XM radio (Audiovox Xpress)? If so, where is the satellite radio antenna connection? It's not at the back of the head unit. I looked and that is a normal radio antenna connection. Thanks!
FusionFanatic
1) you can buy an XM tuner and adapter for Ford factory radios. TERK makes the XMDFOR100. 2) the factory Sirius receiver is a separate unit (not part of the head unit). the antenna connection is on the sirius tuner, not the head unit. I'm not sure where the Sirius tuner itself is located. if the factory installed it then it is probably bolted down somewhere (I think I remember reading that the factory installs them on or near one of the seats?). if the dealer installed it then it is probably just zip-tied somewhere around the head unit (check the areas on the sides and above/below the head unit).
GreyhndDad
Thanks for the info. The link you posted does not have the Fusion listed in the compatability chart for the XMDFOR100. I'll call and see if this is an old chart and is comp with the 09 Fusion. I'll look under the seats for the tuner. Didn't occur to me to check there. I don't remember seeing the tuner behind the head unit when I pulled it. But I wasn't looking for it at the time either. Thanks again!
GreyhndDad
Very frustrating. I tore the car apart and still can't find the Sirius tuner. Also, the converter/XM tuner from Terk has been discontinued and it appears there is no solution to this problem. I've been to three Ford service depts. and NONE of them can tell me where the Sirius tuner is. So, for now, I have an XM Xpress hooked up. I was able to run all the wires under the center console and into the storage bin under the arm rest. There I can connect through the "SYNC line in" connection. The magnetic antenna mounts real nice on the roof just behind the factory antenna. The line tucks into and runs in the channel of the rear window and into the trunk. From there, I ran the line behind/under the rear seat, up to/under the driver seat, and into the center console. (I tried leaving the antenna in the rear window on the rear deck but had too many reception breaks) The good news is that the Xpress unit has more features than the factory radio has for Sirius. I'll post picts for anyone interested.
roady123
I just found the tuner last night in my 09 Fusion SE. It was behind the padded area to the right (if you are sitting in it) of the passenger rear seat. To get the cusion out you have to unscrew the bottom section which requires you to pull back the seat a little. I'm trying to find how to take the top part off - but I've been able to at least see it buy pulling the side clips out a bit. Hopet hat helps ...1 and half years later

I'm sure it will help someone out. I went to 4 Ford dealerships, and none of them knew where it was (at the time). So I just installed the portable XM unit and have been living with that. Now that I know where the tuner is, I may re-visit this project. Although I'm considering trading in the car right now. Just tired of it. Thanks again!
roady123
No problemo...now if I could just figure out how to unplug the power source...it is impossible. Tell the Ford Guys to refer Sirius customers to you from now on!

I realize I am replying to an older post but I was trying to use the same XM receiver in my car and truck so I bought a Power Connect Second Vehicle Kit and using Greyhnddad ideas was able to install the radio in about 45 minutes. I did use a couple dabs of silicone to keep the antenna wire in place along the rear window. I already had the XM for my F-150 and also a XM installed on my '05 GoldWing so I didn't feel like kicking out another monthly payment to Sirius especially since they would not consider a mulitple deal on the Sirius installed in my 2010 Fusion. I really though that when the two companies merged we would be able to use either system as one. Guess there wasn't enough money to be had that way.
ZenMasta
I can't offer any help, but was just curious. I thought sirius and xm merged.
DaveM
I can't offer any help, but was just curious. I thought sirius and xm merged. Yes but still separate Companies.
chris00gt
Yes but still separate Companies. Sirus used to own XM and pretty much keep billing and their channels separate. As of a few months ago, it's now the same and the company is now just referred to SiriusXM radio. XM's website now take you to the same one as sirius, and now as a few months both have the all the same channels (that's why Howard is now on XM). Just go to www.siriusxm.com
