It's a circuit that I designed to work with the Viper or Clifford alarms.

So if I got the 5901, I wouldn't have that feature.

 

To be honest, as long as the AC is sufficiently strong, I can deal with being hot for a minute or two before it cools off.

 

Although from a gadget perspective it would be pretty cool to have the remote start. I'm going to wait to see how well it works on the FFH or MMH before I decide to purchase a remote start solution.

 

Maybe we should move this to a different thread?

I originally ordered the Sterling grey, until the Platinum White came into the dealer and I test drove it. I didn't realize it was a pearl white in the book. So I changed my color to Platinum white, with black leather 502a, the lighter interior colors looked cheap to me. I didn't care to have black in S. FLorida, but it seemed to be the best looking interior. I actually wanted the sport two-toned interior but they woudn't let you order that on a hybrid. Can't wait!! It has a vin# and production week is May 4.

Since you have the car, I would be interested if you can control the selections on the radio.

 

We picked up our White Platinum with the 501A package last Thursday, and I have been controlling the radio with SYNC. So far I've gotten it to tune to FM stations with the call number, Sirius stations with the call number or the station name, and tracks on my iPod with artist name or album name. I'm still learning, but it's been fun so far.

That is the exact car I picked up last week (after an 8 - week order time). I am highly impressed. It is the best sedan I have ever owned (and I have had several). The smart gauge is like nothing else out there. The car is very quiet at speed, is comfortable for 5 passengers, and the nav/sync system is best in class. I could go on and on, but suffice to say you have made a great choice!

Yes I've said it before, anyone that buys a prius after seeing the Fusion or Milan hybrid must be crazy. The Fusion/Milan hybrid beats every other hybrid on the market in every single category. Ford should be very proud of themselves as they have two winners here. Can't wait to see what they come up with in the future :shift:

The Prius has green caché. It's instantly recognizable as a hybrid. It's an import. It has higher fuel economy. It's a hatchback with alot more cargo space. It's cheaper with established resale value.

 

There are probably more benefits (real or perceived) to choosing one over the FFH. But regardless of what the Toyota PR dept says, the FFH is a TCH competitor, and it's a winner in that comparison. Whatever treehugger.com says, the FFH is not an inferior car with amazingly good press. The crowd that's calling the FFH a huge disappointment should try riding a bus. You can't beat mass transit for miles per gallon per person.

 

The FFH will attract people to hybrids who wouldn't have gone that route in the first place (like me). On its own merit, it just seems like a good car and not just good for a hybrid.

Only because it was basically the first hybrid known and for many people the only game in town. This is more Hondas doing than toyotas. Things will change now.

I see that as being a negative. I'm sure other Americans feel the same, especially since we're trying to turn this economy around and so many American jobs have been lost overseas.

Hey Merc, here's hoping that the Fusion is a game changer for everyone, but especially for Ford. I'm all for American success, but I'm not opposed to the notion of wanting a nice import.

 

BTW, hatchbacks are great; American taste's don't favor them but have you seen the 2011 Fiesta? For what it is, it's quite a looker, even in that funky green. Heck, I wish the FFH got the keyless ignition that the Fiesta's getting.

 

I think we're mostly on the same page, but you have to give credit to the Prius. To say that a hypermiled FFH is better than the EPA mpg of a Prius is a false analogy. Apple to apples, the Prius should always have better FE than an FFH. The Toyota's lighter, more aerodynamic, and it's designers (and owners) are willing to compromise more than what Ford designed the FFH to allow. Same goes for the Insight. If someone wants that, more power to 'em; unlike the government, I won't spend their money.

 

I thank Ford for giving me and everyone else the choice of a nice, efficient car with great goodies in my price range. Not to mention 5-star crash ratings, great interior room, and a good looking ride.

 

I couldn't bring myself to buy American if it meant a 300 or a 'Bu, but Ford's doing the great things in my book.

have you seen the 2011 Fiesta? For what it is, it's quite a looker, even in that funky green.

 

Good point about the 2011 Fiesta, but I think it's the exception to the rule. If they offer it in any normal colors I might even get one. Add nav and Sync and that would be a great car for the money.

 

 

I wish the FFH got the keyless ignition that the Fiesta's getting.

Well it gets hooked up to the same exact spots (I have the 2010 Ford service manual DVD) so actually it works even better and has a ton more features, like it will tell you the temperature of the inside of the car (which is really nice in the winter) and it will automatically turn on your heated seats, etc,... The Ford PATS system will still be in effect, mostly acting as a backup system.

 

I'm going to set mine up to first open the moonroof (to let all of the summer heat out of the car) for a minute and then close it again and turn on the air conditioning. If it's raining then the moonroof will stay closed. In the winter it will automatically turn on the rear window defroster, heat the seats, etc...

 

The factory alarm has a 1 year warranty. The Viper has a 3 year warranty. The Ford alarm is around 315.00. The Viper system is around 250.00. I think the Viper remotes also look much, much nicer too, plus they have many more channels to hook up other accessories.

Yes I have the Helm official 2010 Ford service manual on DVD. My neighbor works for Helm and got me a copy at cost. It's the latest edition that all of the Ford dealers use. I wouldn't attempt doing this (or anything else on the car) without it. It's really not that hard to do but there are soooo many interconnected circuits on this car and tying into the correct one is (as you know) essential.

You said that you worked on the circuit in a previous post? You work for Ford?

My circuit is a detection circuit which connects to the car and the Viper. As far as I know the Fusion, Milan and MKZ all share the same parts for that section. The parts you linked to are for the ignition and other accessories, not the moonroof. They should make a power window module that should work with it though, but you'd still need to make your own detection circuit or the alarm wouldn't know to shut the moonroof when it's raining. BTW - these and these are much more updated bypass modules to use :)

I'm getting my FFH end of the month. Supposedly build date is today. I'm thinking of installing the Viper 5901 because of what you said it can do here. I assume you have the MMH - Have you installed on yours? Is the immobilizer for remote start only or is it necessary to control other functions?. The remote window/moonroof and AC control are cool things to have also. Does the Viper control these functions through a hardwire connection to the car? Lastly, is the detection circuit you built commercially available? Thanks!

Do you mean the bypass? If so then yes, it is so that the car can 'bypass' the Ford security system so it can start. When you get in the car and insert the key in the ignition, it will be as if you started the car with the key normally.

 

The remote window/moonroof and AC control are cool things to have also.

Don't forget the heated seats :shift:

How does the Viper get feedback on temperature info?

 

Also, are there any units made for this vehicle to control power door locks and windows wirelessly (clone remote control commands - moot point if above question is answered I guess)?

Glad to be of assistance. However if you have technical questions you should probably start a separate thread :)

The locks are wired directly to the main unit. Heated seats usually require a simple relay. Windows require a window module which then wires directly to the main unit. You would then program the main unit through its "Comfort Closure" settings. You should be able to google for the Viper instruction manual which will explain everything in more detail. Later this summer/early fall I will have a schematic diagram drawn up detailing where each wire gets connected, along with HD video tutorials explaining each installation step posted on another automotive accessory tech site :) You would then basically install the Viper in a step by step, 'paint by number' fashion :shift:

 

How does the Viper get feedback on temperature info?

Sensor in main unit transmits data to the remote window.

As far as I know keyless entry comes standard with the car, but you would need to add an alarm to add window control.
