OzzyNF
Plug recommendations?
Fuser
Champion is usually my go to. Use them in lawn equipment too. NKG is highly recommended for foreign cars and they are available for the Fusion. Bosch in my experience is just more money. And forget about that split fire stuff.
drolds1
Over the years, members here have had the best outcome with the OE Motorcraft plugs. Take from an expert: https://youtu.be/5OBZnGoGdyQ
sirtanon
You can never go wrong with the Motorcraft plugs. I replaced my plugs @ 215,000 miles with Autolite Platinum plugs, and I was disappointed with the overall performance, so I replaced them again with NGK plugs, and the car runs MUCH better on them. The next time I replace my plugs (probably at around 325,000 - 350,000 miles) I'll most likely purchase a set of Motorcraft SP530 plugs, which are essentially the same as factory plugs.. got a while to go before then, though. The factory set lasted 215,000 miles. :D One thing I will say is an absolute definite - Whatever plugs you DO buy, make absolutely sure you get "Fine Wire" plugs.. they'll look like this at the electrode: FYI - These are what the NGKs I bought look like. I purchased these NGK 5019 Platinum fine-wire plugs. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe NGK makes Ford's/Motorcraft's OEM plugs. Do NOT buy any plug that uses these old-style "puck" shaped electrodes. They won't work right. OzzyNF
Thinking about going with these ( pic below )
sirtanon
Those plugs are pretty much as close to the factory-installed plugs as you're going to find. They should work very well for you.
Rhino7
Spark plugs can get confusing with the numbers and what will work with the 2010 Fusion 3.0. The pic in the above post shows SP511 with the {CGSF22F ,SP518}. SP511 is with the CGSF22F ,the F for Fine wire Platinum, while SP518 is with the CGSF22N, with the N being for Nickel I assume. The dealer recommended SP518A which is CGSF22NA1, which I think is a basic plug. I prefer to get the best Motorcraft plug which is applicable with my engine. Some sites say the SP511 replaces CGSF22N ,SP518 Is the SP511 the best Motorcraft plug for the 3.0 ? C = Thread Diameter = 14 mm G = Reach = .708" or 18mm Conical Seat S = Plug Characteristic = Suppressor (Carbon) F = Plug Characteristic = Conical Seat 2 = Heat Range = Cold (Stock) 2 = Tip Configuration = Extended (Power) Tip F = Plug Characteristic = Fine wire Platinum Electrode Edited May 8, 2018 by Rhino7 Added
Oregon Owner
Question - I see Motorcraft SP530 plugs advertised sometimes as "suppressor" plugs. They seem to be twice as much as SP530 plugs advertised elsewhere. Are there actually two types of SP530 plugs? If so, which is best for 2011 2.5L Fusion? Thanks.
sirtanon
SP530 plugs are SP530 plugs everywhere. If they were different, they would have different models/designations.
bangster
If you get the old style engineering number for the SP530 which is AYSF-32Y-R A - 14 MM Y - .968 thread reach S - Carbon Supressor F - Conical Seat 3 - heat range (cold) 2 - extended tip Y - finewire center electrode with platinum/copper core ground strap R - Iridium (I wonder if they are really Ruthenium) Personally I like the Autolite XP for price and rebate, always run them in place of Motorcraft in Fords. Can't beat about $1.50 a plug versus $6.50 for Motorcraft!
bangster
I personally don't think that Autolite is the manufacturer of all Motorcraft spark plugs. I think they are for the older ones (made in US, made in Mexico) but if made in Japan I think it is is someone else, like mentioned possibly NGK.
Ozzyfanfusion2012
Autolites are garbage and yes NGK is the supplier and manufacturer of the motorcraft plugs and O2 sensors. Just stick with the factory motorcraft plugs for optimum performance and reliability
