ClaveMan
July 11, 2018, 6:00 AM CDT Bloomberg Business Ford Is Killing the Fusion and Giving the Name to a Sport Wagon Quote The Fusion name probably will live on when the sedan exits early next decade, according to a spokesman. It will be replaced in the showroom by a high-roofed hatchback built on the same mechanical underpinnings, said two people who asked not to be identified revealing future product plans. And you thought it couldn't get worse..
akirby
How is it worse? This is exactly what Ford said they would do - this is the so called "whitespace" vehicle and a "non-sedan silhouette". They already showed us the Focus Active - this is just a larger version. Note that Fusion doesn't exit until "early next decade". They should not have even mentioned any Fusion future plans yet.

Great way to kill current sales off and depress resale value even further.
bangster
Have you seen the new Mitsubishi Eclipse...Cross? I lament the loss of cars, I am not a CUV or SUV fan, I have a 2017 Escape because my wife wanted a small CUV. I hate everything that makes it not a car, but that is the way everyone buying new cars is going. I probably only have 2 car purchases (for myself) to go I hope.

robertlane
It's great that the Fusion name will live on. . .however, Ford shouldn't have mentioned its death or movement of the nameplate this soon. Strategic error that's been addressed in Dearborn.

The funny thing is that any time the media or other interested parties ask Ford about future models, the stock answer is, "We don't discuss future plans." Next month we'll be told that Fusion sales fell even further than anticipated.
ClaveMan
“ Head explodes.. It’s been a good reliable car, a good seller for us over the last 10 years or so,” said Joe Wood, new car sales manager at Northgate Ford in Port Huron. “The fact that Ford is decreasing the number of cars alarms people who are loyal Fusion buyers. Keeping the name, a solid name brand, would be a smart idea.” “While current Ford Fusion production ends in a few years, we’ll likely continue to use the name because of its awareness, positive imagery and value with consumers,” said Mike Levine, Ford North America product communications manager. “However, it’s too soon to speculate on what that new vehicle may look like.” Detroit Free Press: July 11, 2018 You’ll never guess what the new Ford Fusion looks like Edited July 12, 2018 by ClaveMan
akirby
Except most Fusion buyers aren't loyal at all - they're only buying cheap SEs and only because they're cheap. As soon as somebody else offers something cheaper they'll buy that. The premium sedan buyers who were buying Titaniums seem to have migrated to crossovers now.
con_fusion
I was thinking they should leave the Fusion name alone and call this new vehicle, "Sporty McSport Face"
sjfishon
You can see the Fusion wagon now, just Google it,has been made for a few years overseas. I just got a new se,I like a road car,not a SUV, if I had a choice, the wagon really looks good. Would of got the wagon..Smooth ride, and plenty cargo. .
bangster
Are you talking about the "Ford Mondeo Estate"? The Sport Wagon isn't going to be a station wagon. Going to be something more similar to the Mitsubishi Eclipse "Cross" or the Honda CrossTour I am guessing. BTW I would love a Mondeo Estate wagon!
sirtanon
I've just been hoping they'd bring the Ford Falcon Ute over here to the states. Heck, call it Ranchero here. It will sell.
bangster
The 'Ute is out of production, so much for that.
sirtanon
Well, the Ranger was out of production in NA for roughly 8 years.. so you never know. They could bring the Ute to NA
