Chad Melchert
2006 Fusion se has standard steel wheels with hubcaps. Stock hubcaps just fall of so looking to replace with aluminum or painted rims. Wondering if anyone has replaced steel wheels and if so what other ford vehicles transfer over to the 2006 16" wheels. Thank you.

Thank you. Hi Chad. Welcome to the Ford Fusion Club. Are you only looking for 16" wheels? If you are going to replace the wheels, why not increase your options and get a 17" wheel. Then you can start off with any wheel from the 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and Mercury Milan. However, then again...why limit yourself to only Ford, Lincoln or Mercury wheels? why not take a look at sites like tirerack.com and other online wheel and tire sellers for many more options?
bangster
I like the OEM wheels available for these cars, including many years of Mustang wheels. You can usually find OEM wheels for same or cheaper than most aftermarket wheels, and generally they are higher quality. I like the Mustang Brembo Brake Package wheels that look like the Fusion Appearance package wheels, but in 19 inch. Any Gen 1 and 1.5 Fusion wheel should be fine no problem. With Mustang wheels you have to watch offset and width, so can't automatically assume they work. The ones I wanted I found out are staggered, and with AWD I would need to find 2 sets of fronts (not that I would want staggered with FWD anyways). They can get wide with 9.5 and 10 inchers available.

The car has brand new rubber on it so was hoping to swap over wheels. Do you think going with a bigger wheel on the 2006 model would create any brake or clearance issues?
bangster
You can usually pick up these Mustang 16 inch wheels for 30-50 a piece if you are not looking to upsize. Maybe try to find them with the spinner center, but just the cap looks good if you want to stay at 16 inch. If you go wider, much much wider, then yes, you would need to check fitment with upper control arm and other bits in the back.

If the tires are new and you don't want to spend the money for larger tires, I can understand your desire to stick with 16"wheels. Concerning larger diameter wheels: It all depends on what wheels you are interested in. You can install any Fusion, MKZ or Milan wheel from the 2006-2012 model years without any worries about fitment, brake or suspension clearance issues. As bangster mentions, there are certain Mustang wheels that will fit. If want to go aftermarket, you can use the fitment tools on websites such as tirerack.com to find lots of wheel choices and ensure proper sizing and fitment. It really depends on how much money you want to spend. Keep us updated and good luck. Edited August 7, 2018 by bbf2530
eGuru
I would recommend that you stick with the 16" tires as the higher side walls provide a better ride quality than lower profile tires. They are also less likely to suffer "curb rash".
