bench racing numbers

Until it cools off and I can take it to the track, and compare it with the car it is replacing (I have anecdotal facts it is not as fast), put together some lbs per hp's for my cars and some others I am interested in. This is mainly due to an impromptu grudge match with a Gen1 3.0 car versus my Gen 1.5 Sport AWD. I had 3 passengers and $350 dollars worth of Costco swag completely filling the trunk (I estimate 650 pounds). I am not sure how realistic the weights given are, I tried to use the same source for them all, and compare as many as I could.

While numbers don't tell the entire story, instead of trying to figure out how many hp you need for each additional pound, this is just a lb per hp chart using the best available data I could find. I didn't expect the FWD 3.0 to have less HP per pound than the Sport AWD, or the AWD to be be 450 pounds more than FWD (which I don't think is right, but I don't know for sure).

My 97 Mark VIII with 13.3 lbs per hp is less than 15.3 per hp of my current car, and it feels like it, gotta be worth 1/2 a second in the quarter, but time will tell.

I wish I would have done something like this before buying the AWD car. I like AWD, it is addictive driving in the rain, but that happens so infrequently for me, and snow I have to search out. FWD Sport versus the Mark VIII seems a lot closer. Included some of my other cars and some current ones just for S & G.

  • 1 year later...

I'm a little surprised to see the 2012 Sport AWD is 450 lbs heavier than FWD... That seems pretty significant...

I don't know, but my car feels rightly quick now that I have these new tires. It launches pretty hard with minimal wheel spin. I can't wait for it to warm up so I can see how they do!
