Heating, AC and Radio controls stop working

I have not been able to find this problem anywhere. My 2013 Fusion Titanium will intermittently show faults for blind spot and cross traffic systems. As soon as this happens, the HVAC turns off and cannot be controlled with the panel below the touch screen (where all the HVAC functions are located). The touch screen shows the HVAC is off and is greyed out. The radio also stays in the same state as it was when the faults occur but cannot be controlled by the touch panel. Volume can be changed by the steering wheel controls but not the volume nob on the panel. This is a big problem with the cold weather coming. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Do you have any indication whether the fault lies on the left or right?

It seems that one of the side object detection (SOD) modules is failing to communicate properly on the MSCAN bus.

Corruption of the communication on the MSCAN will definitely affect your ACM (audio control module) and the HVAC (through the FCIM) as they rely on that bus.

You are still able to use your steering wheel controls for volume control because the SCCM (steering column control module) communicates to the ACM through the HSCAN bus.

You can try disconnecting the SOD modules to see if that stops the problem with the ACM. Connect each SOD module, in turn, to determine which one may be causing the issue.

eGuru, thanks for the response. All I know at this point is when everything is working, both sides work and when nothing is, neither side will work. I will check the connections and wires at the SOD modules this weekend. They look easy enough to get to. I assume it could be as simple as a nick in the insulation of the wiring. Ironically, everything has been working fine for the past 2 days. I'm sure it will come back. It always does.

Still dealing with this issue. Here are the symptoms again:

Climate control system shuts down. I get an alarm stating "Temporarily lost communication with the Climate System."

"Blindspot System Fault" and "Cross Traffic System Fault," I'm guessing these both utilize the Side Object Detection Modules.

Door position preset buttons don't work (but manual seat adjustments do).

Front panel controls (radio and Climate control) don't work and panel LED's do not light up. Radio can still be controlled by steering wheel controls.

My wife's fix has been to stop the car, get out and get back in. This usually works and faults clear. This is why I'm guessing there is something happening with the wiring under the seat that may be causing the communication error to come and go.

I did check the Side Object Detection modules be pulling the wiring harness and cleaning pins with alcohol. The modules themselves were pretty clean. Per another recent post, I pulled the wiring harnesses under the seat and reconnected them. No luck there either.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

It could be the electrical harness under the drivers seat.  The touchscreen controls freeze up if there is a bad connection in the wiring harness under the seat.  Next time it happens, move the seat back or forward when parked, then try the fan or radio controls.   This happens intermittently with my Fusion.  The harness needs to be secured better (or worse).   Hope this helps
