Shudder/rumble strip feel while accelerating

Hi,

I have an 07 Fusion with 180K miles.  About 3 months ago I noticed a shudder or feeling like riding over rumble strips while accelerating.  It only happens between 20 - 25 mph. If I am coasting at that speed, it rides very smooth. Also, if I make a hard right turn i hear a rubbing sound.

I thought it may be my tires because the front passenger had excess wear on the outer tread. I had the front tires replaced in mid-October but it didn't fix the problem.

Brought it to my mechanic today for that, along with oil change and to check out a creaking from front right passenger side.  His main concern was the shudder after he and the other mechanic took it for a ride. They aren't sure if it transmission related or the axle.  He reached out to his friend who owns a transmission shop and the guy said it could actually be the axle. So, the transmission guy is going to drive it tomorrow to see what he thinks.

My mechanic also said the lower driver side control arm needs to be replaced. He looked into the creaking noise I mentioned and he said everything looks fine, just may need some grease. He wants to hold off doing any other work until we figure out the shudder situation.

Just curious if anyone else had encountered anything like this.

Let us know what you find. By your description, it sounds like a CV joint issue.

Hi diakimnj. I would tend to agree with eGuru's Internet diagnosis. Also, since sounds can be difficult to describe (one persons rumble, is another persons grind, is another persons squeal, is another persons screech...etc), I will mention the possibility of a wheel bearing beginning to fail. Sounds like your mechanic will find the issue.

Keep us updated and good luck.
