rebus20
Sorry this is my first post but I bought a 2010 2.5 fusion with 133k miles about a month ago for my daughter who turned 16 a few days ago. It drove perfect on our 3 test drives but about a week later it started having a jerk at highway speeds, just an instant stumble once. It will do it around every 15-30 miles. Then it progressed to stalling at idle while in gear. I have changed the throttle body and reset it by disconnection the negative battery cable and jumping it to the positive. I changed the plugs, coil packs and valve cover gasket as it was leaking oil into the spark plug holes. It seemed to get better but a few days later it is doing the same thing. Completely random and runs great most of the time. No check engine light either. Not the best situation for a new driver. Im very frustrated with it now. I have an appointment at the dealer next week but wasnt wanting to dump a lot of $$ into it after just buying it. Any ideas? Im going to clean the iac and egr tomorrow. When it stalls its instant. Like turning the ignition off. No stumbles.
sirtanon
Call me crazy, but if it is just randomly stalling, and literally simply cutting out / shutting off in an instant, my gut say that the issue is electrical or computer related rather than mechanical, spark, or fuel related. Best have the dealership run a proper diagnostic.
rebus20
Got it back today and all seems good with it. They said it was an evap canister with the fuel tank that was stuck open and not letting pressure build like its supposed to. They replaced the valve for $200 and it did fine on a 35 mile trip.
hotlynx16
I have a 2010 I bought a couple of months ago and I brought it to the dealer and had a couple of recalls fixed, Airbags and seems one they fixed vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.. Next thing I have to get the valve cover gasket replaced (oil in the spark plug wells) and spark plugs. rebus20
So I ended up replacing the ecm, when I did it threw a code for either a bad ecm, crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensor. I replaced both sensors and its running good now. I think it was the combination of the ecm going bad and the bad sensor. Hopefully this will help someone.
Digital_Dad
How much in total did you spend? Is it still running well?
