mvan231
When I updated my phone to iOS 12.1.3 I now no longer have connection to my ford fusion Sync system through Bluetooth
Multitask
remove the pairing at both ends, then re-pair them. 'might' need to do a master reset too... though that would be extreme

Even tried on my new phone and same issue.
Multitask
Then it's a bug with the new iOS and Sync Either wait for a newer iOS, or take it to the dealer, see if they know whats up
Multitask
12.1.4 just came out, but it's the bug fix for face chat... maybe it fixes other things?
mvan231
Wow! Yeah I updated to 12.1.4 just now and magically my phone can see SYNC again when pairing. Strange! But at least it’s fixed. Thanks again
Multitask
Kewl, either they fixed the issue, or the update just reset things... glad it's working.
Switchblade Sue
I just got my 17 platinum and am having the same problem. I’m hoping theiphone update fixes my issue. Really disappointed right now.
bangster
I have multiple iPhones with most recent update and SYNC3 in my Escape, and Bluetooth seems to work fine (it finds my wifes phone in the house and I have to plug in to use Android Auto on my phone). I mainly do use them plugged in with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but sometimes when I am just going to the store I will leave the phone in my pocket and use bluetooth, but we have hands free ordinances and doing everything on the dash is legal and much better. Even with streaming apps and built in navigation if I am going to listen to more than one song I plug in my phone.

It’s strange that it only broke the Bluetooth operation for Sync, but it’s working now, so that’s what I care about. I tried everything before as you can probably see in this thread. The 12.1.4 update is the only thing that did anything. A side note, I was able to connect my phone by pairing it with the car, but had to select the Find Device(s) option rather than Find Sync when pairing it. This method turned out to be useless though as well.

It synced no problem and CarPlay now works. ??♀️ Just glad I hit it to work. I was frustrate day trying to sync the darn thing. Switchblade Sue
So I thought my phone paired last night finally with my fusion CarPlay only worked because I was using the USB. If you are BT paired, will your CarPlay work? Does anyone know my phone won’t pair? I’m frustrated. When I had a a 18 titanium rental, my phone paired via BT and CarPlay worked without a cable. ??♀️

An iPhone can pair via Bluetooth for calls etc., but not CarPlay. You can find this information, along with instructions and information for SYNC and its abilities in your particular model year vehicle, on the Ford Owners website. Here is the SYNC page: https://owner.ford.com/support.html#/categories/ford-owner%3Ahow-to%2Fford%2Fsync-and-technology I believe Android Auto can operate via Bluetooth. EDIT - As Multitask stated below (and I double checked on the Lincoln Owners website) it seems Android Auto will also only work through USB, not Bluetoooth. It is Applink which can connect via Bluetooth with Android Auto. To use Applink with CarPlay, you must connect via USB. (thanks akirby) Edited February 11, 2019 by bbf2530 Information correction.

Yes on point 1 no on AA working via bluetooth... it still has to be plugged in... was for my 13, and same for my 18 Maybe the 19 can? Doubt it though...

Then re-pair them again and see.

Multitask
AA= Android Auto Though I would type out Car Play, maybe CP would be the abbreviation. ?
Multitask
My Pixel 2 XL does not stay connected to Bluetooth all the time, there are times when Sync3 tells me that it's reconnecting. Not sure why, even with the update I did. The phone sits in the tray below the unit, so it's not like it's far away. This is all to day , that Fords bluetooth is not 100% , it does get confused...

Lol I can see why I was confused about the AA. Didn’t realize we were talking Android Auto now ? yeah seems like some odd interactions with software on these. Painful to go through when it doesn’t work, but so nice when it actually does work right
bangster
I am happy that my 2017 Escape just works 99.9% of the time with Sync 3. Biggest issue I have is decent USB cables. From time to time in BT mode it won't find Pandora on my phone, and some of the commands in SYNC to command my phone don't work like I expect them to, but again, I rely on AA and CP because they are awesome, way better than the commands and controls in Sync and the built in nav. My daughter loves Sync in her 2015, but once it wouldn't connect to her phone and she called and was distraught that I had ever heard, I thought something serious happened, but for her it is a safety feature, but she doesn't like verbal GPS commands and has to see the map navigation, so she rarely uses it, she pre-trips and looks at it like a map before driving. My 2012 Fusion about 5% of the time it forgets that BT audio was the last selected input, and it connects in phone mode and I have to tell it "bluetooth audio". It also pauses the music or navigation for the 911 assist thing, I think my car battery is getting close to needing replacement (it didn't survive a week not being started in reasonable weather, a few 30 degree nights).
Multitask
I find it odd that I have Waze on my phone, and under AA it is a switchable item, BUT, it's not one of the APPS when i don't have it plugged in. So somehow Bluetooth does not report that it's there. Oh well...

Either way it looks like Waze only works via USB.
