Hello,

I recently discovered this forum and thought i would join. I live near Washington D.C and drive a 2017 Fusion Platinum, i have owned it for just over 1 year now paid 29K for it and LOVE IT! (see pic). I owned a 2013 fusion SE hybrid before but traded it for the 17 platinum for more horsepower and more trunk space. Loved the fusion since the 13 model came out and hate that it being discontinued after 2020. I do have a question for other platinum owners what do you use to keep the leather clean? just curious. Nice to meet you all!

Hi CB.  Nice Fusion and welcome!

You can use a good leather cleaner and conditioner available from any major auto care product company.  Meguiar's, Mother's, Tanners Preserve, etc. I'm sure other forum members will also jump in with their own favorites and preferred brands.

Keep in mind that the leather in our cars has a thin, clear protective microcoating. So make make sure the product you use is safe for modern, coated leather.  And don't rub the leather hard when cleaning. You do not want to rub through the microcating.  Let the product do its job.  Any product from those major manufacturers will be good. I currently use "Meguiar's Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner" (a one step product), and "Tanners Preserve Leather Cleaner" and "Tanners Preserve Leather Conditioner" (a two step product)

Also, if your car has any Alcantara, Miko Suede or other synthetic suede materials, do not use leather cleaners on those surfaces.

Good luck with your new Fusion!

Thanks for the suggestions, it comes with real leather seats, never had them on a car before and want to take care of them as best i can.

Hi CB.  You are welcome.  And yes, your Fusion Platinum has leather seats.  However, some Fusions (and many other cars nowadays) with leather seats also have synthetic suede (Alcantara etc.) inserts as extra trim. If your car has any, just be careful not to use leather cleaners on those inserts.  If it does not have those inserts, then any of the leather cleaners mentioned above, or from the other major manufacturers, will work fine.

Good luck.

Hello, I use a line from Chemical Guys. It’s a water based line. I use the cleaner, conditioner, and UV protectant. I work with horses and am very familiar with quality leather cleaners, conditioners, etc. I just got my 2017 Platinum last week. The seats has some wear. I did repair and dye myself. If you ever need dye, get it from the Seat Doctors. The dye is a PERFECT match. I used Luxury Leather Repair crack and Crease Filler for the hairline cracks, gently sanded, then dabbed dye in with a makeup sponge. Wish I had taken before shots of the upper bolster but it looked quiet similar to the bottom one. Just not as worn.

my seats are not as worn just a little dirty from pants rubbing on them, yours I am impressed how the cleaner and conditioner restored your seats they look almost new again.

Yeah, I was able to get this Platinum for $15,400 because of a few things like the wear. However, I knew I could fix it. So it was worth it to me. Otherwise, I probably couldn’t of afforded one. I really love this car. My only complaint is getting out. I’m only 5’2 and with such a slopped roof line it’s tough. I love the look of the lower roof line though from the outside. So sometimes you have to compromise I suppose. ??
