Hey Ibtalton, did you drive it off a cliff?

Guess I'm confused on the the intermittent not cranking problem you were having. I can understand if it was not starting before or running properly with the issues they found, but shouldn't it have still turned over/cranked?  Just curious as I still have the same issue whenever it feels like it.

I still haven't taken my car to the Dealership. Still having the intermittent problem with an additional symptom. Went out to make sure my vehicle health report reminder was turned off as it is no longer available. Went into the accessory mode by leaving foot off of the brake. Up pops the error messages and as I acknowledged the various ones, it finally gets to full accessory active, put foot on brake and start? I know you can't troubleshoot electronics on the internet but trying to find out if anyone else has had this issue.  Ford has no TSB out on this particular problem. Wanted to gain a little knowledge before I go to the Dealership and they come up with a no problem found for a $100+ computer diagnostic. I would think they could go into the different modules and check the software for updates. Never know! Curious and a little frustrated with Ford's electronics.

I am having this problem right now.

battery is new.

i bought the car in sept 2019 brand new under the overstock program.

It is currently in the shop for the third time in 30 days.

ford so far has replaced the PCM, BCM and a sensor.

i am currently working with ford to buy the car back.  If I get it back again and still does the same thing.  It falls under the lemon law.

Best thing you can do is get rid of it like I did. Never solved the intermittent no start. Started having other problems like car shutting down on the Turnpike and the Advance Trac started acting up. Personally I think the software was a problem and never any answer. Take my word, it is a dangerous vehicle, dump it if you can.

My Intermittent no start was due to bad coils connected to the push button start.  Took Ford 2 weeks to find the problem and cost me $350.  It has been a year now and no other problems.  Well those crappy lug nuts has to be replaced.  Other than that the car has been fine.

Lol!  No, but I almost did.  After sitting at the Ford dealership for a week and a half, they were finally able to figure out what was wrong.  When my new engine was put in back in February, the harness was damaged.  There are 4 coils in the harness and 3 were broken.  I have had the car back for 2 weeks now and everything seems to be working fine.

Hello… was wondering if anyone on this forum found any other causes? My 2016 ford fusion is having a very similar problem to what seems to be described here. Had happened 4 or 5 times. Very intermittently. Apologies for the long post but just showing details of what worked each time and the exact situation each time.

1st time - didn’t think anything of it. Turned key fast from off, quickly all the way to start. Not pausing at “on”. Got a “1 click” sound but car didn’t start. Turned key off. Turned it back on, started fine.

Fast forward ( I had a coolant leak in engine, ford replaced the engine). I also replaced the battery because it was due.

2nd time - about two months after engine and battery replacement, same issue. Turned key fast, got one click sound. Tried putting in R, N, D - no luck. Still 1 click sound. Tried back in park - no luck. Tried disconnecting the battery terminals and reconnecting. No luck. Tried about 45 min later, first try started up. Did some research, Ford said maybe it was the vehicle theft issue and the car didn’t recognize the key so wouldn’t let it start.

3rd time - about 1 month later, same thing. Turned key fast (on accident), didn’t start. Walked outside of range so maybe the car and key fob wouldn’t have a signal in case it was the theft warning, came back, still wouldn’t start. Again the “1 click sound”. Walked away from car for an hour. Came back, still wouldn’t start. Tried my back up key fob, first try it started.

4th time - tried my back up key fob first. Didn’t work. Tried my main key fob, wouldn’t start. Tried all gears, wouldn’t start. Opened the hood, tried wiggling a couple fuses, shut the hood. Tried each key fob. Didn’t work. Tried each key fob again, and one of them worked.

it is so intermittent. I have tried to rule out certain things and every time I have found something that worked, the next time it happens, that doesn’t work. The only thing all of these occurrences have in common is that each time it gives the “1 click sound” it is right after just driving the car. Like the car had been driven 1 hour prior.
