Shari
I have a 2010 fusion. I have had the heater core, radiator, hoses, water pump and thermastat replaced and the gauge shows running hot but it doesn't smell like its running hot. I do know the previous owner had put a BUNCH of stop leak in it and my mechanic has flushed it out numerous times when he replaced the heater core. It runs ok and the heat & a/c work fine. I drove it and it showed running hot so I turned it off. Restarted it less than 5 min later and gauge showed in normal range. What else could it be?
TheFixer253
It sounds a lot like a faulty cylinder head temperature sensor. I'm surprised your mechanic didn't check it out when doing all the other replacements. It's not an expensive part and it's easy to change out. Escapes and Fusions with the 2.5L engines had a problem with corrosion of the connectors on the temp sensor. Another possibility is that your cooling system did not have the air bled out properly when all the replacements were done. Please let us know when you find the cause.
sirtanon
As TheFixer mentioned, this sounds like a failing/faulty CHT. Have a look at this video:
