Scrapping sound in back right on brake

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been noticing lately when I apply my brakes, I hear a scrapping sound and some other type noise. I believe it is coming from the back right brakes. However, after a complete stop and when I begin driving again, I still hear a scrapping sound but then it stops. Would anyone know what this could be? This is a 2006 Ford Fusion sedan.

Thank you

Hi jchisholm.  Does the sound seem to occur after the car has sat overnight and then disappear after a few stops? If it does, it is likely surface rust on the rotors which is being removed by the pads during the first few stops.

If it does not fit that description, then have it checked by your Ford Dealer or an independent shop you trust.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I forgot to mention this. A local garage told me that there was considerable rust under the car when I brought my car in for an oil change. I am wondering if this could also be contributing to the scrapping sound.

Hi jchisholm. You forgot to answer the questions concerning does the scraping sound seem to occur after the car has sat overnight and then disappear after a few stops?

And where is the "rust under the car"? Is it located on the body, or the suspension/suspension components, or the brake components, or all of them, etc? The more information, the better.
