Jeh_Bee
My 2016 Ford Fusion with 99,900k miles on it currently has a tranny issue. While at a red light (attempting to accelerate when turned green) my car made a clunking noise and would not shift into drive. A yellow wrench symbol showed up and I had to get it towed to the dealership. I figured later that once you turn the car off and back on it will drive - but only for a short while. The dealership advised that Gear 6 is “broken” in simple terms. So when the car automatically shifts to that gear- I can’t move it. I have to get the transmission replaced, but, I’m wondering if I can use the select shift in order to keep the car from automatically shifting into Gear 6 ?? I found this YouTube video and thought I’d might give it a shot. What do you fellow Ford Owners think? I just need to drive it somewhere to park it. I’ve towed it 3 times in two weeks ?. Sidenote: I’m beyond irritated with the Ford Motor Company right now. They refuse to take responsibility for their crappie transmissions.
bbf2530
Hi Jeh_Bee. It is hard to say whether using Sport mode will accomplish what you want. The only way to find out is to try. You say when you started to accelerate from a red/green light, it would not shift into Drive? Does that mean you had the car in Neutral while stopped, or do you just mean it would not move or stay in gear? A damaged sixth gear should not stop you from moving in first, second, third etc, so I'm not sure exactly what the Dealer tech was telling you. If it is only sixth which is inoperative, using Sport mode may work, but it would seem there is more wrong than just sixth gear. So give it a try. If it works, just keep the speed down while you are moving it. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
Jeh_Bee
I was actually sitting in drive at a red light and heard the clunking noise and saw the wrench symbol while my foot was on the break. I could not drive forward at that point. The car was sitting at a slight angle going up a small hill. Someone helped me put it in neutral and move it to the side. once I turned the car off and back on - the symbol was gone and the car went into drive. As I tried to go up the small hill again, it would not move forward. I’ve been able to drive the car around a parking lot without any issues, but I’ve been afraid to drive long distances. I’m going to try what you suggested.... thanks for your response ? Edited June 6, 2019 by Jeh_Bee
