Resale Value on Added mods/parts

I'm trading in my 2010 Fusion Sport and moving on to an Edge, Ford doesnt care about the parts I added so I was wondering if anyone knew if they had some value?

 

I have the steeds CAI with 2 filters

 

Steed front strut bar

 

Rear Sway Bar

 

Steeda Throttle Body.

Hi Hasek.  What type of added value are you referring to? Generally speaking, they have no added value on a trade-in, since a Dealer is going to low ball you anyway. In fact, some Dealers will even try to convince you that mods detract from the value of the vehicle.  Perhaps on rare occasions you may be able to get some minimal value added on a trade-in, but that is rare and is all according to the individual Dealership.

 

Now, if you wanted to get something for the mod equipment, you could remove them, put the car back to stock (if you still have the factory parts) and sell the aftermarket parts yourself.  But that could be a bit of a hassle if you want hassle free.

 

Your best bet anytime you are selling an old car and buying a new one is not to trade-it in, but to sell it yourself, privately. Taking trade-ins is a service which the Dealerships charge you a fee to provide (by offering you less than your car is actually worth).

 So it is easy to keep that extra money. Simply find out how much the Dealer will give you on your trade-in, mark up the price accordingly for a private sale, and sell your car yourself.  I have done that with every older car of mine, since 1981, and always cleared a minimum profit of $1,400 (and up to $3,500) over and above the trade-in price offered (while still taking into consideration the trade-in sales tax break). And I did it by simply putting "For Sale" signs on my car.  No advertising. And all sales except one were pre-Internet. Even if you can't find a buyer for your old car before your new car arrives, then you can still trade it in to the Dealership for the pre-agreed price. This all puts added profit into your pocket, instead of the Dealership.

 

Selling your car privately would also allow you to talk up, negotiate and add a little for the modifications.  You can do that with a private buyer, but a Dealer will act like they do not care on a trade-in.

 

Of course, selling your old car yourself is not as viable an option for a new car impulse buy or if you are buying a new car off the lot. I have always factory ordered my cars, so that gives me the luxury of a 6-8+ week window to sell my old car before the new one was delivered.

I meant what are the values of the parts I added, not my car with them. As I stated I would remove them to re sell :)

yes

 

I looked on ebay and the CAI has value + the nav system

 

not sue about the rear sway and front strut + throttle body

 

and does the tuner have some im not sure if it locks to one car

You would have to unlock the tuner from your car for it to be sold & used by someone else. 

The only issue with the sway bar & strut bar are trying to ship them. Otherwise I’d imagine you could find someone interested in buying them.

Hi Hasek.  In my defense, you did not state that you were removing them to resell. You stated "Ford doesn't care about the parts I added so I was wondering if anyone knew if they had some value?"  I did not take that to have anything to do with whether you were willing to or going to remove them. Understood it to mean you thought Ford should offer you something for them on your trade-in and were asking our opinions on that subject. Now I understand what you were thinking. Just a miscommunication.

 

So...as Evsjeff stated, a tuner definitely has value, but you will need to reinstall the factory/stock tune to your car, before you trade in or sell your car. That will "unlock" the tuner from your car. Then you can sell the unlocked tuner to someone else, who can then purchase new tunes for that unlocked tuner. I would definitely have addressed that and told you to unlock the tuner (and sell it privately), before trading the car in, if you had mentioned a tuner in your first post.

 

The front strut bar, rear sway bar, throttle body and CAI all have a resale value, if you can find a buyer. If you Google those items, you can find what they currently go for new and what others are selling them for used.  Doesn't mean they are getting those prices, but at least it gives you a starting place.

 

On a related note: My opinion and advice concerning how much you can get selling your car privately versus trading it in still applies. ?

 Sorry I thought I worded that differently. I can definitely see how that can be confusing. Thank you for linking the person looking for the parts I did get into contact with him and he does want to buy three of the items that I’m selling so that will be great and I will just have to sell the front strut tower brace and the navigation system once I take it to get removed and put the sink back in that’s something I am not able to do on my own so I’m hoping it doesn’t cost too much To take it out !

Do you know how i should in tune it? Do I do it before taking out the CAI? And is it a setting in the tuner to delete or something like that?

If it’s an SCT tuner, you have to reload the stock tune to the car. The stock tune should be stored in the tuner itself or as a file on your computer (if you saved it there). That unlocks the tuner from your car. Not sure how other brands function.

Hi Hasek.  I do not have a tuner, but assume it came with some sort of instructions, an instructional CD or something? Do you have the instructions?

 

If no one here jumps in with detailed instructions to help, perhaps call SCT and ask them how to reinstall your factory tune and unlock the tuner. Or check their website for a How-to section?

Yes your 'stock tune' is on the SCT tuner, simply choose to 'Reload Stock Tune' (Or similar wording on the device.).  It doesn't matter it you return to stock tune before or after CAI removal.  And there is no need to hook the tuner up to a computer at all.
