2018 Ford Fusion Energi "Brake Pedal Diaphragm Travel Sensor"

Recommended Posts

I have a 2018 Ford Fusion Energi SE I purchased late last year (last week of September) and up until recently, I had no issues with it. I started having issues where I would get an error saying to check the brakes. This seemed to be reproducible in two circumstances: I had my foot heavy on the brake as I hit the start button OR I used the parking brake and on a slope (maybe my foot was heavy on the brake as I was releasing parking brake).  I finally took it to the dealer and they said the problem was a bad "Brake Pedal Diaphragm Travel Sensor". Neither the service guy nor myself had ever heard of such a thing, so I went to Google to figure out what that is... I came up with nothing. I came up with similar things, like a brake pedal position sensor. I've come here to see if anyone knows anything about this. They replaced it for free, after having to wait a few days for the part to arrive, but since I'd never heard of it before, I was just a bit puzzled. I know there are some mechanics that just replace parts until the problem is solved... I'm hoping that isn't who I've dealt with and they were able to definitively find this to be the problem; this was at a Ford dealership though.

I’m having the same symptoms (brake warning light on though brakes function normally, fluid level and pads ok). Ford scan indicates the following errors:

  • C0048:11-AB, Brake BoosterTravel Sensor
  • C0048:64-68, Brake BoosterTravel Sensor

Does anyone know the sensor part number and/or can confirm that it is different than the brake booster pressure sensor?
