drolds1
Post moved by moderator. The Articles, News, and Reviews section is intended for just that. If you examine a few posts in that section, you'll get an idea of what types of subjects belong there. Since your question concerns the interior of your car, that's where it's been moved to. WRT your question, you'll need to furnish some more details. Has it always been there? Is it always present? Is it stronger under certain conditions than others? Is it only noticeable when the A/C is on. Have you raised the issue with your dealer's service department? What you seem to be describing (far more than just a slightly moldy A/C smell that can sometimes occur in rare situations), is not a common occurrence. Have you carefully checked the car, under the seats, center console, glove compartment, back seat armrest area (pull it down and check cup-holders etc), in the trunk etc, for anything that may have been left in it? Do you have kids? Maybe a stray Happy Meal that has been fermenting for weeks? ? Let us know how you make out and good luck. drolds1
Aside from bbf2530's astute suggestion, perhaps a critter got into your car somehow and met its demise. This happened to my brother years ago. Upon removing the lower back seat, a mouse carcass was found caught in the springs.
sirtanon
This was my first thought. Musty smells are not entirely uncommon, usually caused by A/C.. but rotten or garbage-y smells are completely abnormal. Almost certainly, either something got in there and died, or you had food that fell out of a shopping bag, rolled or slid under a seat, and now has started going rancid/rotten. You need to go get that car out into a well-lit, open area and start digging through it to find where the smell is originating.
