isaac Posted June 15, 2019 Share Posted June 15, 2019 I really want a fusion hybrid, but I am concerned about damage in severe weather. I plan on getting a 2018, but I live in Wisconsin. It is not frequent, but there are days of 100+ degrees and days of -50 windchill's. Due to my job, I still have to go to work (and park outside for 8+ hours). So there is potential I will come out after an 8hr shift of my car sitting in -20 degree weather with a -50 windchill, and I'll need it to start and drive. Clusterliver1 Posted June 16, 2019 Share Posted June 16, 2019 I’m reasonably confident that a block heater could be used to ensure the engine starts in cold weather which would have to happen with any car. Hybrids aren’t overly efficient in weather extremes but neither are conventional ICE’s. My ‘15 has been a gem as far as I’m concerned. Smooth, quiet, low maintenance, comfortable, intriguing for any nerdy types! bangster Posted June 16, 2019 Share Posted June 16, 2019 You won't get near the mileage when it is that cold as you would when it is warm, but other than not enjoying all of the aspects of a Hybrid when it is that cold, should be fine, will still run and drive. The battery can't be charged below 32 degrees It will run the ICE (at a higher RPM) to get coolant up to temp for cabin heat (you can try using seat heaters instead, but doesn't help with defrosting windows) ICE gets lower mileage when cold, so it will run more and get worse mileage Heat is a lot less of a problem, but it will still run the engine to cool off the interior of the car. Poil27 Posted June 16, 2019 Share Posted June 16, 2019 (edited) plenty of hybrid here in Quebec (same weather as you guys and some time way worst) and no problem with them out in the cold /heat all day . Sure the autonomy of the battery is less when it verry cold /hot but car still run perfect . if it survive our winter i would not worry about yours .
