First of all I'm a new owner of a FFH and I'm having the classic no EV mode and poor fuel mileage. Really do appreciate Allen and his detailed instructions. I am preparing to change my battery age tomorrow after I get a laptop. In preparation I am trying to get on the Forscan forum, but in order to register it is asking me for an invitation code. Maybe I'm an idiot or missed it as its been a long day. Where in the world do I find the code so I can get a free 2 month license from that forum? Thanks!!!

Sounds like "registration on the forum is now available only to paid users. Invitation code is provided in the confirmation email."

So how do I get the activation key for the free 2 month trial or is that no longer possible?

PM me your hardware ID of the forscan software you've downloaded.  I can generate the activiation key file for you and email you it.   You don't need to register on the forums, if you still can't.

Hi, I have a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, 92.5K miles. I am the second owner. I have tried the battery age reset and it works for a few driving cycles then when I recheck is back to its original state. Also the EV does work but the gauge shows the HVB is always charged. It never drops. I do get EV but maybe 5% - 10% power. Not sure where to go from here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 
 

so an update, I took it to Ford and had the software update and absolutely no changes.

Looking at Vitomats note above.  I'm having the same issue.  Additionally, I just took the car into Ford Dealer last week to reflash the BECM under recall 22G04.  Hybrid fx seems a little better afterwards, but that might be because ambient temp was close to 50F today versus the low 30s we've seen the past couple of weeks.  Mileage is down about 10MPG.  Not sure what to do.  I suppose I could plug the code reader in and see if anything pops.  Ideas, anyone?

I did the update at the dealer too and noticed significant mpg loss at higher speeds. Specifically around 80 mph. I used to get well over 30 at that speed and now it's a constant 20 mpg. I'm thinking this might be related to Ford Mykey? Maybe the dealer put a speed limiter on of 80 mph using MyKey. I'm going to see if I can get it turned off. Otherwise, it's possible the dealer "update" put a speed limiter in the pcm itself. The car used to go well over 80 no problem, now it struggles to touch 85.

I have a 2011 Ford Fusion Hyrbid with 88k miles and I started to experience the same symptoms mentioned by others. Took it to the dealer for the 22G04 update and here is what the technician says in the note

AFTER READING THE MODULE SOFTWARE IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT IT DOES NOT NEED A CALIBRATION BECAUSE IT ALREADY HAS THE LATEST

 

I am wondering how this is possible?  If the 22G04 is a software update, how could it already be present in my vehicle?

I got the update done on my 2010 a few weeks ago. Probably have about 300 miles on it now and getting better gas mileage than ever. I used to have a long term average of 38.6 or less in the last few months, but now it's over 39. On a 125 mile round trip, I got 41.9 each way, so it seems something worked differently for me than for some others. I had done the battery reset a few years ago and just left it when I took it to the dealer. They had the car for about 2 1/2 hours.

Something I wasn't aware of until a few weeks ago. Not all Ford dealerships are Electric Vehicle Certified. I bought a 2011 FFV and have run into the reprogramming issues a couple times. 1st time when the electric steering update was done. They put it in and the EV mode didn't work. Went back again, they put it back in.OK

2nd time I took it in when the TSB for the battery year reprogram came out in 2020 and it was great afterwards. They had not heard of it yet and it was the first one they had done. It worked great again.

I took it in last month to finally get the passenger airbag replaced and the technician came across the TSB since Ford had then issued that they were paying for the update and "reprogrammed" it again. Yep, he didn't do it right and it was back to the "3 count" before the engine would accelerate again. Took it back and he got it right the 2nd time. 'Anyway if you go to  https://www.ford.com/dealerships ,put your zip in and check the EV Certified square and it will show which Dealers are Electric Vehicle certified.

No the one I had been using was not. Lesson learned.

Bought a 2010 FFH with almost 200k on it here in Kansas.  Not going into EV mode like it should. Want to try the obd2 fix that Allan posted but the scanner he linked is not available anymore so I don't know which one to get.  Also, I asked my local ford dealership if the 22g04 update was done on this car and they said yes but I feel like they just don't want to do it.  lol. Is there anywhere I can check if it has been done?

I'm now at 4 years since I did the HVB reset, and the car still going strong!  No issues at all.  Still excellent MPG. Currently averaging 50-55 mpg in my commute in this weather.

 

Never went to the dealer to do the update.    Side skirts near the bottom of the door is rusting away.  Also, rust pretty bad on my trunk lid next to the license plate. Touched it too hard and put a hole through lol.    

 

But, she still goes and seems to be mechanically sound.    Next thing I'll do is change the coolant, the spark plugs, and maybe the transmission fluid.  These have never been changed.

My hybrid function started operating near-normal in the Spring.  Right about the time evening lows were 50 F and higher.  I had the dealer reset the firmware last winter with no noticeable performance improvement.  Getting around 42 MPG again.  Has anyone else tied battery performance to temperature?

 

We'll see how it does in the winter.

Wow! That’s really impressive mpg. Mainly in town driving? Any aerodynamics employed on the car?

No, the car is all stock.  My all seasons tires are over 6 years old.  The tires probably have 4 or 3/32nd tread life left, so it seems to help alot with the MPG.   My brand new winter tires, and also the cold, really affects my mpg, could only do 30-35 mpg.  Sometimes less in extreme cold.



My work shift is in the afternoons, where traffic is lighter on the main roads, and coming home at night with even lighter traffic.  This way, it is a whole lot easier to hypermile and control the speed.   Also, driving on the same roads for years going to work and back you start to get used to the roads terrain which makes it easier to anticipate coasting on the roads incline and slopes. If I go on the highway to work and back home, I can get 40-50 range mpg.   Right now, my long term mpg is showing 46 mpg (was reset like a month ago)

 

A couple of weeks ago, I achieved 61 mpg on a 13 mile drive. (0.2 gallons used)

We'll see how it does in the winter.  

 

WInter tires and cold temperature definitely affects your mpg.  When you initially start the car and If you don't mind freezing to death, don't turn on the heater. It helps with your mpg, because the engine will reach operating temperature much faster for the hybrid to work more efficently.   After driving about 15-20 minutes, if you feel you the need to use the heater, you can turn it on.  If you're on the highway sooner, then you can turn on the heater.

Did anyone ever do a battery rebalance through FORScan? I tried to do it with 3 different OBD connectors and still says Conditions not met. I did a live view of the battery conditions. My max Volt is 302 and 95% SOC. Not included in the picture was “ Last Rebalance of Battery” and it said In Progress. I left the car on for about 40-45 min thinking it might work. Does anyone here have any tips on how to do it? 
I did reset my battery age but it didn’t make any difference. I reset it back in January 2023.

Hi all - I saw someone ask in 2019 or so if anyone is aware if the 2013+ models need to be reset? I have a 2014 that I’m wondering if this would help, I seem to average about 37ish on the highways now and feel like it was closer to at least 40 in the past.

 

Could also be the tires I got for it last year, hard to say. I’m not having major issues like some posters where the ICE takes over but wondering if this would be beneficial to do proactively as it approaches being 10 years old. Has about 72k miles on it.

Hi,

 

Does this also work for a 2017-2020 model year?

 

I hit 125k miles, and at 94k miles there was a reduction in performance. At 125k miles, regen was only working in eco mode, as it's really not charging the battery anymore (just the motor and generator fighting one another when regen braking; quite often dumping the high voltage battery capacity in the process. Very inefficient.

 

I found heading off an exit ramp of a highway it's better to drive the last 0.5 miles in ev mode, rather than use regen braking at the last moment, as that could be the difference between 36 mpg and 44 mpg on a 10 mile highway trip.

 

Same with going down a bridge, drive in ev mode, don't try to charge the battery using the brake pedal.
