Found this post, I forgot about the reconditioning function.   Read the 2nd post from acdii, perhaps the rebalance & reconditioning are one in the same.   Since my fix, I haven't experienced a recondition cycle,  my HVB barely ever gets above 60% SoC which seems a little odd.

http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/9335-high-voltage-battery-re-conditioning/

Normal HVB SOC is 50% for 2010-12 FFH. That's to allow regen braking down a long hill.

I would like to thank allen85. I did this fantastically explained fix and I can now enjoy my vehicle once again. As many have other stated on here i also figured my vehicle I was only going to get 30 mpg ,before I was getting around 40. Thank you so very much

Another happy Fusion owner. Allen you are a rockstar!

I just executed the fix by resetting back to zero years and the car is not the same car it was just minutes before resetting the battery age.  It's back to what it was like when we got it. 2010 FFH with 165K mi on it and going strong again.  I have a 2005 Ford Escape hybrid with 254K mi on it and still going strong on the original battery as well.  I'm about to do the reset on it too!

I tried doing this today with my friend the mentioned item i got from Amazon item bbfly-BF32302 and it wouldn't let me load the software for the device on my windows computer it kept saying the website didn't work/couldn't be displayed. So i returned it.

is there any other odb2 I can use with a smartphone android device that would work... any recommendations or what ones have you guys used for the "Fix"?  I'm looking to buy one where I can use with my smartphone i don't mind paying the fordacan app niether.

Its been about a week since the reset and i just had a check engine light show up.  When checking, it reported no DTC's, but the next line was "BECM module".  I performed a DTC reset and it cleared for now.  Has anyone else seen this CEL?

I just did the Fix last night and my 2010 hybrid has 210k miles on it. I set it to 1 year also.  As soon i completed the computer part, I heard a clicking sound in the engine and when I turned it off and turn it back on it worked perfectly! Back to new. thank you so much Allen! Your awsome and knowledge :)

Wanted to add that I did just do the neighbor's Hybrids (a 2010 Fusion with 75.000 and a 2011 Lincoln MKZ with 88,000 miles) and he and his wife and daughter are thrilled that they both are like they were when he first got them.  I used the Autel MS808 to do a rebalance first, then reset the HVB to year 1-The forscan software has only a two month license and I had a hard time getting it activated the first go around, so I will do this fix for anyone in the SE Pennsylvania area as long as it is active-contact me and we'll arrange to meet, the rebalance takes at least a half hour and in the instances I have done it more like 45 plus minutes.  Actually changing the value from 'error' to 1 takes less than 10 minutes.

What's the procedure for the rebalancing?

I literally just created this account so I could say thank you. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I have a 2010 Fusion Hybrid and I've been going around in circles with the local Ford dealership trying to get them to fix this. They refused to contact engineering, do anything other than a battery rebalance, or even acknowledge that it wasn't a problem with the HVB battery needing to be replaced. When I found other people who claimed their local dealership reset the battery age counter in the car and that fixed this same issue, the supposed hybrid certified tech at my dealership said they were lying and that no such counter exists to be reset.

Today, armed with a Windows VM on my laptop and my VeePeak BLE OBD-II module, I reset the counter myself, following these instructions, and immediately my car went back to running properly in electric mode. I got nearly 60mpg driving back from the coffee shop. First time I've broken 40mpg on a trip in the last year or more. I am so done with Ford at this point, I think this is going to be the last car I ever own with the blue oval on it. I don't care if it was intentional forced obsolescence or not, if they can't keep it working properly, I don't want it.

on a Autel MS 808 scanner there is a function for battery-with it plugged in and matched to the vin, you go into battery rebalance (battery has to be between 60 and 104 degrees I think) you have to run the car at idle while the computer rebalances the batteries-it takes about 45 minutes, and I sat through three different Hybrid Fords doing this before I changed the year to '1' using Forscan (after the rebalance)- they are all like new now, dramatically better than before.

Got it, thought I could do this with my computer as I did with the forscan stuff, didn't know I needed an actual scanner for it until I looked up your model

That's odd a shop with the proper equipment wouldn't perform the mod for a price and your disclaimer.  What was their rationale for denying the service?  I assume you offered to pay them for their time.   Maybe try an auto parts store with the proper scanner.  If you're ever in Dayton, OH look me up, it's literally a 5 min job.

I just did this fix to my 2010 FFH with 312K miles. Yesterday I was getting 37-38 mpg. This afternoon after the procedure I got 45 mpg (just under 100 miles of around town and rural driving). Also, a weird throttle lag went away. My whip can jump off the line again.

Hi Allen,

Same problem started with my 2010 Fusion last fall. Spent days and almost $1500 at the dealership with the result that “nothing is wrong”. But of course the mileage is still terrible. Can I take you up on the offer to help? I am in the GTA also.

So Ford apparently will announce an official fix for this it seems:

Oct 3 2019  8922 - 2010-2012 Fusion HEV, 2010-2011 Milan HEV, 2011-2012 MKZ HEV - Reduced ElectricVehicle Operation

Some 2010-2012 Fusion hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), 2010-2011 Milan HEV and 2011-2012 MKZ HEV vehicles may experience reduced electric vehicle operation and increased gasoline engine operation. Do not attempt repairs at this time. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates.

I wonder if they will release the information if they do fix, probably not though

I'm sure that now that my solution is floating around and share alot of times now, 6400 views is alot in just a couple of months in this post.

People must have stormed into the dealership demanding they fix it, since this solution solves it.  The mechanics have no excuse playing dumb not to acknowledge this.  So I'm sure the dealers inquired to the higher ups at Ford HQ that there is a self fix floating around.  That is why in the TSB it said "Do not attempt repairs at this time" lol.   They knew people were fixing it them selves.

Other than the "Engineering is investigating" I'm sure this solution here might some how assist them in their investigation and play on that.   Maybe work in the code to re-balance the battery properly.

I’m sure they’re checking to make sure this actually works as expected and doesn’t cause any other unexpected issues.  It’s one thing to modify your own vehicle.  It’s another to tell and pay dealers to fix all these vehicles and stand behind it.  I’m sure there is an EPA aspect to this as well.

I wish I knew more about how Ford will handle and resolve this but at least it appears they are working on a solution. It is a problem that should have never existed due to faulty (or lazy) programming on the many factors that should be taken into account on the aging of the HV battery.
