New Vehicle delivered with damage

Recommended Posts

Just took delivery of my 2019 Fusion SE AWD today, got it to work and noticed it has paint and small damage to the front lower fascia.  NOT HAPPY.  Has this ever happened to anyone before ?  I have purchased over 20 new vehicles in my life, mostly FORDs and this has never happened before.

My recourse is probably to get it fixed - painted, parts replaced, etc..... but I didn't buy a new car to have repaired parts, I bought a NEW car.   Thinking of asking for a swap at the dealership - they have another one exactly like it...  my car as 41 miles on it.

Hi ARB.  You need to contact the Dealership and work from there. Just to prepare you: They should and probably will offer to repair and repaint the front bumper. It would be highly unlikely that they would "swap" the car, since it is not that simple, legally.  It has already been purchased and therefore could not be sold as new to another buyer. Even just swapping the bumper cover would be out of the question, since there can be VIN numbers on the parts. I am not saying it is out of the question that they will "swap", just that it is highly, highly unlikely.

Be polite and don't accuse them of knowing it was damaged. In their eyes, it is just as likely that someone hit your car in the parking lot or somewhere else, even if it was only out of your sight for one minute (I am not saying that happened, just explaining the situation from both sides).

And just as a lesson for us all: Thoroughly inspect your car before signing the papers. Legally/technically, once we sign the papers stating we inspected and took possession of the car in good condition with no damage and drive it off the lot, it is ours. However, while a Dealer does not have to do anything, most reputable Dealers will repair and repaint the bumper as a good faith gesture.

Keep us updated and good luck.
