Drewbabich Posted July 13, 2019 Share Posted July 13, 2019 Can you reset the trouble codes on a 2011 ford fusion hybrid yourself? There has to be a way right? I'm struggling and failing at reseting my "service powersteering" "service advance trac" trouble codes... I've tried disconnecting the battery overnight. I've touched the terminal wires together as i've seen instructed. I've also tried a foxwell scanner NT510 but i don't have the ford software on it yet so its useless for this. On my toyota hybrids you can jumper the holes in obdII port and hit the brake like 8 times to reset abs lights etc etc but i'm finding no good advice on ford hybrid trouble code resets I've also noticed that the car stays powered up even with the accessory battery completely disconnected..... i never seen that before on my toyota hybrids... no wonder i can't clear anything. This thing has the memory of a steel trap. Does this pull power off the traction battery when the accessory battery is disconnected? What triggered the codes was getting a flat tire and driving 1000 feet on the flat. dragnet Posted November 5, 2019 Share Posted November 5, 2019 (edited) You can use an OBDII interface and Forscan software to access and reset the Power Steering Control Module and ABS module etc. I intermittently get the power steering and advance trak messages, then lose all power steering. Hopefully it's just the tire you replaced but before you replace the electric steering rack ensure your control arm bushings, ball joints and alignment are correct and check tires for defects/wear again. I've read in numerous places that those are things that can trigger the steering codes. Ultimately it could be the steering rack but hopefully just the flat tire. Check out the HVB reset post that's at the top of this forum to get details on installing and configuring Forscan... So cool) This hybrid lost power steering 2 weeks ago and shows 3 different U codes. One got steering angle position sensor. One for transmission and One for abs. Question is. DO NOT BUY A NEW STEERING MODULE, it won't solve the problem. Search the forum and you'll find the information you need. Adee, can you supply a link to the FULL ForScan product you purchased. Also, instead of spending hours searching the forum can you take a few minutes to write down your experience and fix PLEASE? Much appreciated. My Fusion 2011 was parked in a 2 foot river of water supplied by Hurricane Ida for a few hours. I let the car dry for a day and a half with doors open after water on street drained. I was able to start the engine and everything worked fine for 15 minutes when all of a sudden I smelled fire and smoke came out of the dashboard vents. It stopped after a minute or two but after that the power steering hasn't worked and I get "power steering fault" and "advancetrac" lights. Drewbabich Posted October 7, 2021 Author Share Posted October 7, 2021 For anyone following this thread you can easily reset your power steering problems with a forscan I have lost power steering three times over the last several years due to driving on low pressure tire and it shuts down the power steering Once you resolve your tire issue the power steering will not come back on its own But if you can hook up your computer to your OBD2 port you can easily go in and reset power steering computer and you'll be good to go If something else is causing you problems with your power steering resetting it will probably only be temporary 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I used forscan to reset my hybrid battery life about a year ago, so I’ve used it once but followed exact instructions from here, on how to do it. Today is the first time I’ve had the brake system faults and idiot lights come up. I took a 11 minute drive to the hardware store, then had a 45 minute lunch. Drove 12 back home. Got back, unloaded. Started up, put in reverse and got 10 feet when power brakes dropped off and had to pull ebrake and pump the pedal to avoid a collision. Pulled back in slowly and stopped ok now that I knew what was happening. Powered down. Restarted a minute later, no problems. Drove 50 yards, problems. burghian Posted November 29, 2023 Share Posted November 29, 2023 The shop told me that damage on the front right side of the car has caused the "service advancetrac" message to show up. Also the power steering was not working. They were able to clear the codes and has not come up for months. I have done regular maintenance on her car, but now an OBD2 is needed. Have you repaired all suspension damage while looking over very closely at any exposed wiring. If the electric power steering has failed it is VERY expensive to fix and requires factory programming. It’s like all of you want people to have to suffer and endure the bs that you did just because the universe put you through it. Like all of you saying search the forum. Why?
