2014 Fusion 1.5 Ecoboost Code P0036

Recommended Posts

I have code P0036 and check engine light. I recently removed the valve covers in order to clean the cams which were a bit slushed up and causing issues to the HPFP cam follower. I verified all sensors were reconnected and have verified all hoses and vacuum liners are connected. I used Kreen to clean the cams and then installed new oil(3qts synthetic/1qt MMO). Idled for 10 min...dumped..and replaced with new motor craft synthetic and filter. Ran it to my inlaws for about 20 miles with no codes. On my way back the CEL came on after 2 miles. Code p0036 oxygen heater sensor bank 1 sensor 2.

Any ideas? Car is running great btw.

Thanks in advance.

That code means the heated part of the HO2 sensor isn't detected as working, there is an internal open, a ground issue, or connector issue. I would go over the wiring and connectors as more likely than the sensor itself going bad.

It shouldn't affect drivability as it only heats up for cold start, but they do help get to closed loop faster.

Thanks for your reply.

As far as I could tell the connector was never unplugged and majority of the wiring is behind the air intake so didn't really touch it. There is wiring that goes past and its attached to the main wiring harness so maybe something went bad there. I'll verify trace the wires back and check if there's a broken ground or possibly positive connection.
