rufixed
Hello! I recently did an engine swap on my 2011 fusion after it threw a rod. I will add some pictures and more text to this thread soon. Engine swap compatibility -The engine is called a Duratec 30 V6 3.0L - the original 2011 engine had the engine code G the 8th digit of the VIN, as did the replacement 2010 engine - It appears all 2010-2012 V6 3.0 L models use the same engine (8th digit of VIN is G) - all 2010-2012 V6 3.0L engines are FLEX fuel (ethanol compatible) - The 2011 ECU appears to be fully compatible with the 2010 engine My 2011 car had an all wheel drive transmission (AWD), which is different from the regular automatic transmission, the donor 2010 car had a normal front wheel drive transmission. Before heading out to the junkyard, I searched for cars on the LKQ pick a part website with engine code G. ( this is the big junkyard chain in the Los Angeles area). I found out I needed to search for engine code G after looking at engines for sale on ebay. I searched for cars that were crashed, indicating that engine was likely still good. (because a car needs to be running in order to get into a serious crash) I found a 2010 model with a crashed front end at the Monrovia LKQ location. The wrecked car had a sticker on it that said "drives" I removed the engine and transmission together, and purchased the complete engine (with manifolds and accessories) for $320. My freind then helped me install the engine. We removed the old engine and transmission together during the install process, though this may not have been necessary. Overall engine removal steps 1. Find compatible engine and inspect for damage 2. Remove radiator, AC condenser, headlights and front bumper and bumper rail 3. Remove the hood 4. Remove all coolant hoses , transmission fluid and gasoline lines. 5. Remove the main electrical plug leading to the engine wiring harness. The engine wiring harness can remain on the engine, as it separates form the main wiring network 5. remove the CV axles 6. Remove the bolts that connect the flywheel to the torque converter. ( should be done BEFORE removing the drive-train assembly from the car) 7. Remove ECU (its in the way when pulling the engine out, and it could be damaged) 8. Securely lift the engine slightly with the engine crane to take the pressure off the motor mounts. You can tie the engine with a seatbelt to the left motor mount and a loop on the top of the transmission. 9. Remove the three motor mounts 10. Pull the engine/transmission assembly up and out of the car. you also need to remove various brackets, coolant tank, battery box, etc. to clear up space for you to pull the engine out.
2010silverfusion
I had to replace my 2010 Fusion SE 3.0L V6 Duratec (Mondeo) as well. I found a low mileage VIN (G) 3.0L V6 engine on LKQONLINE.COM i opted to buy the 2 year/24 month parts and labor warranty thru LKQ. The new (Used) engine i got only had 37k miles on it at time of purchase. I got it for $460 + the warranty+the freight all together it was just under a grand out the door. Hows your engine held up? any issues??...
gigabyte323
My engine has been fine, though the timing cover broke. I put about 20k miles on the car since the swap. the timing cover broke when my motor mount failed. i have fixed the timing cover and it is running again.
