I was just out washing my FFH for the second time since picking it up. I got it May 21st. Well, I did the stupidest thing... I had the windshield wipers up, and forgot. Then while I was drying the car, I popped the hood to dry around the edges, and hit the wipers!!! ARG One small scratch on the hood crease near the passenger side wiper blade!!! :banghead:

I am sorry about the scratch and know how you feel. I tree branch fell on my last new car. It was just a baby with 900 miles on it. The branch fell while I was just driving down a street near the house. I hope you can get it taken out without much trouble. I am still waiting on my FFH. I may get it this week.

Rob, sorry to hear about that! A possible silver lining, its now been baptized with a scratch so you can stop worrying about it ;-)

I have to go on a business trip this week; will have to leave my FFH (which I'm picking up tomorrow) at the airport; that's making me very nervous!

That is very true, it has now been baptized! LOL I always say, if something is going to happen, it will be in the first 1,000 miles. I guess i can count my blessings that 1) I did it and not one of my kids. 2) It was relatively minor.

Guess I need to get some touch up paint now.

Oh wow, leaving it at the airport, that is the worst feeling, new or not. You are very brave!

Sorry to hear that! I had the passenger side door on mine get scratched on the edge of a curb the other day (parallel parked), but fortunately it's just the very bottom of the door and not noticeable.

Still, I think I'll buy some touch-up paint just in case ;-). Anyone know a good place to buy it?

Hi cchaos. :D Yes. You can purchase the Ford/Motorcraft touch-up paint at your Ford or Lincoln-Mercury Dealership.

And for the best color match I would recommend you use the Ford/Motorcraft touch-up paint (as opposed to aftermarket brands). The tube with the integral brush and ball-point applicator tip usually runs about $10-$12. Less if you are on good terms with the people at the Parts Counter.

While you may certainly find an aftermarket or even the Ford/Motorcraft paint for less someplace else, how much time you want to waste calling/driving around to save a few bucks is up to you. And you will get the best color match with the Ford/Motorcraft paint.

Also. if you want to do a professional job for scratches that are in obvious places (not like the one on the bottom of your door) pick up a tube of the clearcoat touch-up paint also.

If they do not have your color and/or the clearcoat in stock, they can order it for you. As always, keep in mind that a Dealership is only as good as the people working at it, so if the first Dealership is less than competent, simply go to another.

FYI: If the scratch is down to the metal, definitely touch it up to prevent rust.

Good luck. :beerchug:

PS - There are "how-to's" on the Internet concerning the proper way to obtain good results when performing touch-up work. Proper prep work. Multiple thin/light coats as opposed to heavy coats to fill the scratch, finish work, etc etc.

Just a bit of probably dubious advice -- before you do anything, check out some of the Auto detailing sites for general advice. If the scratch is not down to bare metal, but is through the clear coat, you might be able to make it look much better by buffing it out than by using touchup paint. If it is to the metal, perhaps the dealer has a company that specializes in touch up and dent removal work. On the side of a car or near the bottom, scratches et al. are not partcularly noticeable. On top of the hood or trunk, more so.

I have no skills, yet have been able to take any number of scratches and scrapes off using a variable buffer and the right product.

Saturday, I managed to break off the passenger wing mirror from the door while backing down the driveway. Luckily, it broke away cleanly, so nothing else was damaged, I just have to order a new mirror because they seem to have been designed to self destruct for the sake of the car. I found one for $60 on Rock Auto. I just need to find some paint and clear coat and should be good.

My first dent was a mystery occurrence at the grocery store. It's still there because I can't afford to get it pulled.

  • 1 month later...

Not sure if this qualifies, but yesterday, got my windows tinted. After returning home and cleaning off all of the residual water streaks from the tint-job, and cleaning the exterior of the windows, I discovered a 3" scratch and a 9" scratch on my rear window. :censored: They did it when resting the film against the window, and cutting it with their olfa. Must have had an old/bad blade. I sure hope that they didn't scratch up any other windows, too. Will find out in a couple of days, after I'm able to roll 'em down.

Dan,

Go back to the shop and show them. They may be a good business that accepts responsibility and fixes the damage. Most nicks and dings in glass are repairable.

Don't want to get in a "I can top you" contest, but I can. My MMH with 1260 miles on it was rear ended. Hit skip driver hit a 2008 Nissan in the rear and she hit me. Fortunately only damage was to the rear plastic bumper and the clips that hold it on, but it was $1160 to fix. My insurance covered all but my $500 deductible, as her insurance says it wasn't her fault ( :censored: you Liberty Mutual!) so they won't pay me anything. Plus their claims people were downright nasty when I talked with them. Obviously she was too too close to me otherwise she shouldn't have hit me as the traffic was moving. So I will probably take them to small claims courts. Same day caught a rock in the windshield and that left a small chip, so I got to get that fixed too. :banghead:
