fiber skid panel under car

It is called various things, which can make it hard to find. I don't know if the 2.5, 2.0, or 1.5 (or 2.7?) makes any difference. Ford calls it an "engine cover", most aftermarket ones are called a splash shield.

It is not entirely required, and you should be fine with out it (most cars I see in the junk yard are missing it, my 2012 I finally gathered up enough hardware to install one, it hasn't had one in many years).

How much purpose it serves, I don't know. Keep engine clean? Sure. Aerodynamics? Probably not. Protection? Probably nil.

I had to remove the one on my 2015 to change the transmission fluid, and took some time to clean it up and get all the bolts and other hardware in place correctly, it was a little beat up and not all the hardware was there.

Hi LOSE WHEEL.  As bangster mentioned, it goes by various names.  Splash shield, underbody tray, etc.. Not sure what it is called in Ford's parts database, but your local Ford Dealers Parts Department, or an online Ford Parts seller could tell you.

It serves several purposes: Improving aerodynamics and MPG at highway speeds. Assisting in directing and channeling air into and through the engine compartment properly, for cooling/aerodynamics. Keeping road debris out of the engine compartment.

Can you drive without it? Sure. But it would be better to replace it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
