Fusion Unlocked by Other Vehicle Keyfob

Recommended Posts

hello, was just curious if this has occurred to anyone previously :

I have a 2012 Ford Fusion SE and we also own a 2008 Ford Edge; when unlocking the Edge it also unlocks the Fusion, and the same for all the other key functions (unlock/lock/trunk release/panic). Has anyone else had this problem? it almost seems impossible two totally separate vehicles purchased at different times having the same unlocking programming??

also not sure if this is something I would have to pay for to get fixed? I feel like Ford should take care of this without charge??? My trunk is always left open or my car unlocked  when my family leaves in the Edge.

note: the Fusion's keys have no affect on the Edge. only Edge to Fusion. Purchased at different times, two factory keys per vehicle, no key changes.

I have successfully unprogrammed a fob from a car and used it on another car, quite a few times, but never on a Fusion. I don't know how to unprogram the fob part. The manual says that you do the programming of fobs and only use the ones you have, but I just tried, and a third one I have programmed in still works after doing the programming mode and only doing 2 fobs.

While it seems implausible that without programming the Edge fob to be one of the Fusion fob, it is pretty simple to program the fob part to multiple vehicles, I have one that opens 3 of my cars, it is put away in a drawer for emergencies (whatever that would be...).

So apparently it depends on what type of key and fob you have (doing the programming in the car, without using Ford IDS or FORScan).

I have 2 IKTs that are PATS programmed (and apparently part of that is also the fob programming)

I have 1 fob only (that is programmed in)

I have 1 aftermarket flip key (that fob is programmed in and PATS programmed)

I cannot use the IKT keys in the programming process (it honks when I try)

Now that I have a non IKT fob programmed, I can only remove one by going into programming mode and pressing a button on the other one, then exiting programming mode. I can't exit out of the programming with both of them not added.

Now that I have added the 2 fobs on the right, without the use of Forscan or a dealer, I can only remove one of them, because I have to use one of them during the programming mode session or it exits without a change. The two on the left (the IKT) cannot be programmed in like a fob (off to run 8 times stopping in run, door locks cycle, then you press a button on the fob you want programmed in). That works for me, since the flip key, unless I get a new blank once it is cut, is pretty much married to the car anyways.
