Proximity sensor does not work “No Key Dectected” problem

Recommended Posts

I bought a used 2013 Fusion Titanium with keyless entry (push start button) and I notice that when you pull the door handed it should unlock all the door and just by climbing inside, press the brake and the start button it should start the engine but not in my case, I have to put it on a certain slot on the center console in order to start the car, at first I thought it should be the battery on the key fob but the lock/unlock, truck, panic, and remote start works fine.

I bought another key a brand new one thinking that should solve the problem but it does not, i think that something (sensor or part) is not working properly because it does not recognize the key that is close to the car to open the door with the handle or even start the car , it pop out a message saying “No Key Detected”

Hi Kevin.  Did the Dealer/seller provide you with both factory IKT fobs or only one?  They should have given you two.  Just buying another IKT fob will not work. Did you have it programmed to your car along with your old key by a Ford Dealer? The must be programmed to your car at the same time. If you only have one programmed key, the new key must be programmed by a Ford Dealer.

If you already have two programmed, you can program your own third, fourth etc. This is explained in your Owners Manual.  If you do not have a copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/owner-manuals.html

Also, did you change the battery or are you just assuming the battery is fine because the other functions are working?

With the information you have given, it sounds as though both your keys need to be programmed to your car by your Ford Dealer.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

So the Intelligent Access Key (not IKT which has the flip out key blade) doesn't seem too intelligent now :( Did it ever work, seems like it didn't.

There is a message in the information display if it senses a low battery, I suppose if it is so low it can't register at all then it can't tell the battery is low.

I don't know what frequency/frequencies this works at, there is a receiver for 433, 315, and 903 mhz, I don't know which is for remote entry (pushing buttons to unlock), for external sensing, and internal sensing.

No added on electrical items like dash cam, radar detector, phone charger?

There is one fuse that says it is for radio frequency receiver (32, under dash, components include "GPS, Voice control, Display, Adaptive cruise control, Radio frequency receiver") but that is a stab in the dark, I can't find a wiring schematic that shows how that is powered, or where it is even.

Just when the car is unlocked, if it’s locked even if I have the keys on my pocket it does not open.

Hi Kevin.  Unless I missed it, you did not answer the question as to whether you had both of your fobs reprogrammed to your car by your Ford Dealer. That may solve your problem. Even if it does not, they need to be reprogrammed to begin any troubleshooting.

Keep us updated and good luck.

When I bought the car it came with a original ford key fobs, that one did not work, the previous owner did not know either why it stop working, I bought a new one programed (the locksmith person used a programmer connected to the DVI port under the steering wheel) and it works locks/unlocks the car with the buttons but the proximity feature still does not work. The locksmith guy said it might be a sensor or something else because the new key fob works fine.

Since neither the 2 OEM keys or the new key function for PKE, we can eliminate them as the cause.

We can also likely eliminate the front and back antennas and the door modules.

That leaves you with the BCM or the RTM as the potential causes and you will need to have a Ford dealer run the diagnostics.

Potentially, it may be a programming fix.

Just when I press the unlock button on the key fob, with the car is locked even with the key fob in my pocket it does not open.
