RJW
I have a 2013 Fusion SE and over small bumps at low speeds there is a rattle/clunk in the the right rear corner. I am a motorcycle tech so I do understand mechanical issues. I have had the car in to 3 dealers and no one can figure it out? I have personally pulled and pried with numerous lengths of tools and lumber and can't find anything loose. I have also removed the shock thinking perhaps that was the issue. Any thoughts out there?

Hi RJW. Internet wild guesses? Any of the rear suspension components. Shocks/struts, strut tower, sway bar links etc. Also, have you checked to be sure the spare tire is securely bolted into place and nothing else has dropped into the spare tire well that could be bouncing/rattling around (tools etc)? Let us know how you make out and good luck.
sanjosse
Hi RJW, I have a 2009 with the same issue, but with mine I noticed that the right rear rattle stops when the brakes are applied, does yours? I haven’t had a chance to inspect yet, when’s I do, I’ll let you know what I find.
mavric240
I would suspect the upper shock mount. If you push up and down on the rear QTR and hear a clicking or clunking sound most likely its the mount
bramor
I have the same issue. It’s in the right rear, a clunking sound that is driving me nuts. It’s loud when driving around 25 over small bumps like cement slabs with cracks, braking or not. The noise is heard at higher speeds but not as much maybe the road noise is drowning it out. Mechanic said struts and suspension were fine and safe to drive but I swear it feels there is a performance issue like a gliding off to the left. Tires squeal turning right about 120 degrees at a slow speed. anyone have a possible solution?

Did you take the mechanic for a test drive and demonstrate the noise? That would be my first recommendation. If you did that with this mechanic, he said he heard the noise but could not find the cause, then in all honesty I would advise finding another mechanic or tech to look at your car. There is not Internet substitute for having the car in front of you to examine. It may also help to post more information about your Fusion. Model year, mileage etc. Hopefully one of our tech members may jump in with some advice. Keep us updated and good luck.
