2011 fusion transmission problem

Hi everyone I am new to the forum. If this is in the wrong section I apologize I’m not sure how all this works.

So so here’s what I’m dealing with. I have a 2011 Ford Fusion sel 4cyl. I just purchased the car at a mechanic special and wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue.

The car WONT move AT ALL not even in neutral. So at first I thought maybe the shifter issue and maybe the transmission was in gear but while running if you select neautral you can rev it all the way to redline but if it’s in gear it will only go to about 3k rpm but WONT move .....also no matter what you select even neautral you CANT NOT ever push the car to get it to roll across the driveway. It’s not the brakes or anything with the wheels off the ground they will spin freely. Idk if this makes a difference or not but the battery is completely dead also

Hi Monte.  Hi Monte and welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum.

This is probably too large an issue to be diagnosed over the Internet.

Now that has been said, let's go for a blind blind Internet diagnosis? For starters: Since you say the car can not be pushed, even when supposedly in Neutral (and you say the wheels turn freely when the car is raised in the air), it would seem your transmission may be stuck in Park. if it was actually in Neutral, it would be able to roll/be pushed. You can not do anything until you can be sure the car is actually in gear.

And since you state the battery is completely dead, a good place to start would be replacing the battery.  Once you do that, you can see about getting the transmission out of Park. There are instructions in the Owners Manual for manually overriding the Shift Interlock. If you do not have a copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://owner.ford.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlI6P6rbu5AIVCFYMCh3NSAKVEAAYASAAEgIdhvD_BwE&searchid=160581195|13270894275|&ef_id=EAIaIQobChMIlI6P6rbu5AIVCFYMCh3NSAKVEAAYASAAEgIdhvD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!2519!3!267771591272!e!!g!!ford owners

Click on "Support", then "Download owner manuals".

Once it can be determined the car is actually out of Park and in gear, you can begin to diagnose any additional problems.

If replacing the battery and getting it out of Park does not solve the problem, you will probably need the help of a professional tech or mechanic. Or at least a very car-knowledgeable friend.

Hopefully one of our tech members will also jump in if they have more specific advice.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I have jumped the car and gotten it started the car comes out of park it seems because when the gear selection in on neautral you can rev the engine all the way to red line but in any other gear you can’t so it seems to be switching...I have the knowledge to fix the problem I just need help figuring out what it is I have a transmission on hold that I’m going to install if that’s forsure my problem I just do want to install it and still have the same issue if that wasent my problem in the first place

Hi Monte. As I said, Internet diagnosis is difficult at best.

However, if the transmission is coming out of Park, the car should be able to be placed in Neutral and pushed. You say it can not be pushed. So that seems to indicate that it is not shifting gears properly, not in Neutral, and something is not right.

If it is coming out of Park and into gear, and revving but not moving, then yes, the transmission would seem to be shot.  But this is all Internet guessing.

Just guessing that the transmission may be shot because the rev limiter is engaging in one position but not another is an inaccurate way to determine whether a transmission needs to be replaced.

I'm still hoping one of our tech members will jump in with something that may help you. Keep us updated and good luck.

As far as not moving, the ECM knows it is changing gears due to the electrical signal from the shifter. BUT, it sounds like there may be some physical linkage that is broken that controls the parking pawl. Try checking that. Although if the trans itself was working, I think revving the engine would override the pawl, and make a large clacking sound, depending on if you also need a physical shift cable to the trans itself or if the pawl is controlled by a solenoid.

I figured out the problem I really appreciate all the help. I pulled the transmission last night and opened it up and there was broken gears and chunks of metal wedged in places so that explains why it wouldent move in neautral

Hi Monte. Happy to hear you found the problem, but unhappy to hear you probably need a new transmission.  Well, on the bright side, sounds like the engine is fine.

Keep us updated and good luck.
