Issues With Your FFH? Post them Here

Sorry I have to be the first to start this but I have tow issues with my FFH already and I have only had the car a week and a half. 1) That cheap plastic door sill plate is starting to come off. The adhesive is giving way already. 2) Discovered an oil leak coming from the underbelly somewhere. I took the car out of the garage for a few momnets and when I pulled it back into the garage I noticed an oil spot. I pulled it back into the garage and the oil was dripping pretty good for awhile. Then it stopped an hour later. Off it goes to the shop first thing in the AM. I will keep you all posted with the results.

Bummer. Let us know what the deal says was leaking, we'll have to see if it is a one-off problem.

I was thinking about what to do about the door sills myself. Something nice looking but protective.

I experience evaporator condensate dripping from my car when I park it in the garage, but never oil.

Strange that it stops in an hour, unless it is from the valve cover area.

The dealership can put a dye in the oil that will show up under a black light. That will point to the source if it is not easily spotted.

Any one has issues with their RPA, the beeping you hear when your backing up?

We have a parking space with nothing but our apartment building behind us (about 400 ft away) Some times the instant we back up the RPA sounds a sold beep telling us something is behind us (when there isn't) other times in the same spot it works fine and does the beeps only when we get close to the building.

The Sold (really annoying) beep also happens randomly when we back up out of other places and nothing is behind us.

Think their might be a sensor malfunction.

Well here's the news. The oil leak was form the oil filter not being tight. When I fired up the car, the oil flows through the system then when the car is shut off gravity takes over and what was in the filter drained out. the dealer took care of it on the spot and apologized for the trouble. Ee thought having a loose oil filter on a new car like that was very unusual. My car must have been built just before siesta time in Mexico. I'll get the dorr sill thing dealt with another time.

Let's make sure we keep sharing our issues ok?

What issues are people experiencing with their door sills? Is the entire sill starting to come off? Does anyone have a picture of the issue? My car is still under 500 miles so everything still looks new but I want to know what to watch for.

I was considering buying the lighted sills that say Fusion but I thought it was a little steep at $207 and then I don't how hard it is install the wiring for them. I wonder if they are glued on also.

I have on occasion had a single warning beep as I was backing out (indicating traffic from a side) when there was nothing at all around. The first time it happened I slammed on the brakes thinking I had not seen an approaching car.

I'm not 100% sure yet but it seems to occur more often if I don't give the car a slight pause before reversing. I have not had it happen if I shift into reverse and wait with my foot on the brake for a second before moving. I usually wait for the coast to be clear even before putting the car in reverse.

I don't know if it qualifies as an issue, or just a unpleasant surprise.

After I wash and dry my FFH, I pull it into the garage for the night, and set the emergency brake. The next morning there is a physical snap from the frozen emergency brake as I begin to backup. This has happened both times. They must rust up fast!

I am getting a couple of noises that are a little concerning. The first is when I am going slowly and turning there is a "popping" noise coming from the front end. Seems like it is mostly when I am backing out of a parking spot or out of my garage.

The second is the power windows. They make a loud scratching noise when going up and down. Now that my car is getting a little dirty I can see a clean band on the passenger window about an inch wide towards the front.

I am debating if I should wait until my first oil change or take it in now. Other than that I love the car.

I can't comment on the popping noise as I would have to hear it to even take a guess. As far as the window noise I had something very similar on another car and it ends up a metal shaving had gotten into the guide. It worked a pretty nasty scratch into the glass and the dealer ended up replacing it. I wouldn't work the window until you had it looked at.

Yes, I've had this problem as well. The backup sensor has twice gotten "stuck"in the solid beep mode even in a totally empty parking lot. The first time it went away on its own after a couple days. The second time it came back a few weeks later and I lightly tapped the back bumper and it went away. Hopefully that's the end of it! It is very annoying.

Although the snap could be a reason for mild concern, I don't understand why you're even setting the emergency brake when your car is parked in the garage. If you have it in P (Park), it's not going anywhere.

I now have 1100+ miles on my FFH. My previous car was a 2004 Prius and previous to that it was a 2001 Pirus - I know how to drive hybrids for great gas mileage. I had many up-front concerns and made the move to Ford with much thought. So far, the FFH is a great car and I am pleased with my purchase.

I have had NO PROBLEMS with my FFH - but, there is one nagging thing. My initial miles gave the following MPG result: City 42 - 45 mpg over the first 200 miles (a/c on), then 40-41 mpg highway over 600 miles (a/c on). But over the most recent 300 miles (city) I have had a struggle to get just 36 mpg (a/c on). The only change: a fresh full tank of gas, ambient temperatures are much hotter (in the mid 90's with high humidity), and there are more miles on the engine. The tire pressures have been constant. Does anyone have any explanation? The mpg decrease is just too great to not have an explainable reason.

It's called a parking brake for a reason. It wasn't just put there to add cost to the vehicle...

I always use the parking brake when exiting a car. Are you suggesting I just should just stop using it because it sticks? I guess bigrigmike with the window issues should stop opening his window?

The manual says not to focus too much on the mileage readings for the first few thousand miles. That said, maybe the gas you refilled it with has ethanol, which reduces gas mileage. That plus the AC and hotter weather may have an effect.

Tonight I turned my car off and sat in it for awhile using the DVD player. When I went to get out it started beeping (not honking) incessantly and put a message (on the dash I think?) that said something like, "To stop the alarm restart the car", which I did and the beeping went away. Anyone know what that was all about?

We were covering the 12V battery in another thread -- if you watched the DVD for a while without a source to recharge the 12V, maybe it was a low-voltage warning to cause you to start the car and recharge?

I wish I had my owners manual handy, that sounds like something I read about. I think it has to do with perimeter intrusion... But without my manual I can't be sure. If I don't see a answer posted by tonight, I'll look it up this evening.

I found it in the manual:

Thanks! Sounds from that like if you use the key to unlock your door you have to start the car within 12 secs or the alarm goes off. Strange!

The problem with this is that we don't really get enough experience with it unless we force ourselves. But, it isn't just a Ford thing, either. My 2008 GM full-sized pickup had a similar system and really scared the bejeebers out of me, especially when you have air horns mounted on the truck and the truck is in an enclosed garage and you are trying to figure out how to stop the blasting of repeated noise.

This is more annoying than anything else. Other than this issue, we have so far been quite happy with our FFH (almost 1000 mi).

Anybody have issues with the way the external temperature sensor updates as it's getting hotter?

Seems like the software doesn't sample the external temp sensor until the vehicle has been moving 25 MPH or faster for 90 seconds. After that it will increase the displayed temperature by 3 deg/sec. According to the dealership, this is as-designed.

We took it in as it was close to 100 but the sensor said 63 and this was after my wife drove home from work in the afternoon.

When driving around town, how often do you reach 25 MPH and exceed that for 90 seconds?

If I could figure out how to hack the software ...
