Coolant

Your owners manual shows that is Motorcraft Orange, and specification is WSS-M97B44-D2 (part number is VC-3DIL-B unless in Canada...)

So you can get Motorcraft Orange, or find a coolant that meets that specification. It can be more easily found under the name DexCool (look at the label for that exact specification), they are usually orange in color. This type of coolant does not like anything other than distilled water, no tap water!

Thanks I went ahead and bought the motorcraft coolant from ford. The Manuel says the car takes about 9.3 quarts of coolant.. I went to do a flush and the car only drained about one gallon of old coolant if that....what am I doing wrong here?

Hi Koffinz. If you only opened the radiator drain/petcock, that is what will happen. What exactly did you do to "flush" the entire cooling system/engine?

I parked the car facing downwards in the driveway and pulled the petcock. I was told on this form that is all that needs to be done.l to get the coolant out of the system.

Hi Koffinz. No, that will only drain the radiator. Your engine will still be full of old coolant. It also may not drain the overflow reservoir.

Hi Koffinz. Here is a video by a Ford Tech explaining how to properly flush a coolant system:

The video is for an F-150, but the process is essentially similar for any car. The drains/reservoirs will just be located differently. I could not find a 2013-present Fusion specific video that I consider as trustworthy as this one from "FordTechMakuloco". You may be able to find one if you do a Google search.

You may find it is easier to have it professionally done.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Huh.. thanks! I watched that video last night. He is only pulling the petcock though..I’m only getting about a gallon of coolant out of my car doing it this way. I guess I will have to take it to a shop

Hi Koffinz.  I agree that your best bet is to have it performed at a shop you trust.

On a related note, I checked your Owners Manual (p. 298). It states 7.1 quarts (6.8L) of coolant for the 2013 Fusion 2.5L engine, not 9.3 quarts. Yes, still more than a gallon, but less than 9.3 quarts.

Good luck.

Page 298 in my manual is information about ford sync nothing about engine coolant... Capacities and Specifications are on page 291 of the manual.... I’m not sure what you are looking at. It clearly says on this page the 2.5l engine takes 9.2qs. Looks like I will have to look around to find someone who knows what they are talking about with more reliable knowledge....

Hi Koffinz. My replies were polite and meant to help. This is the latest printing of your 2013 Fusion Owners  Manual. Check page 298: http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/13fsnom3e.pdf

I hope anyone else willing to help you takes your rudeness and lack of knowledge into consideration, before offering further assistance.

Interesting, since both versions (HTML and PDF) of  the 2013 Fusion online OGs specify 7.1 quarts for the 2.5 engine. The online versions indicate that this is the latest information and 3rd printing.  Digging deeper, one finds that the 1st and 2nd printings show 9.2 quarts. You apparently have an earlier version So either the earlier OGs were incorrect or a running change was made for later cars.  Confusing, for sure. There's live chat on the site so perhaps you could get a clarification or contact a dealer service dept.  The techs there should know what's right for your car.

As noted, opening the petcock only drains the radiator.  Coolant remains in the engine block and the heater core as well. Back in the day, there were drain plugs in the engine block that were fairly easy to access.  While they may still be there, by no means would they be easy to access  IDK the location of the plugs, if any, on your engine.   If you don't want to follow the method in the video bbf2530 posted, then I suggest you have it done at a shop with a coolant flushing machine.  Yes, he only opened the radiator petcock, but he had clean water flowing through the engine while it was running, until it flowed clear.  Thus, one is assured that the old coolant remaining in the block has been replaced with clean water.

Edit: Looks like bbf2530 posted the same information just before I got in. I'm assuming you did not mean your last remark as an insult but rather an awkward way of saying that you were seeking a professional source of help.  If not, then an apology is in order.
