Passenger side blowing cold air?

So got my 2013 Ford Fusion 1.6 Turbo back from dealer. They state it is not the blower actuator or blend door actuator that is causing the problem with only cold air coming out of passenger side. State everything looks ok. Tested actuators ok. They stated something about there is a door that runs off of a door that runs off a door inside that may not be closing. They say it is the entire Plenum that is broke and needs replacement. Gave me part # EG9Z19B555H Replacement cost $2700. Said whole dash needs to come out and it is a 15 hour job. Just want to know your thoughts?

Yes. It is dual control. Different digital temperatures for each side.

I think you should verify that the passenger side blend door actuator is responding to the HVAC controller before spending 2700USD for a whole new plenum assembly.

I believe you should be able to see the passenger blend door actuator if you remove the glove box door.  If not visible through that opening, you should at least be able touch the end of the shaft and  feel the actuator shaft rotate as you adjust the passenger side temperature.

It is rotating. I have already checked on that. Is there something else like maybe the temperature actuator.

The blend door actuator moves the damper that mixes the hot and cold air stream. Is that the item that you checked for rotation?

I am not clear about your statement.

Yes. According to the schematic of the Plenum. Looks like there is 2 on each side. 1 is the blend door actuator and the other is for temperature. Dealer said seeing this plenum is sealed, there maybe more doors inside that blend cold and hot! And would need to replace the whole plenum. I looked and when turning the heat up and down, I can see the levers moving.

Today I talked with my cousin, who by the way is a GM mechanic, and he had me put the phone next to the dash vents. After adjusting the temperature on both sides, he said the plenum and blend doors are working perfect. He then told me to pull the hoses off the heater core and flush it out. Guess what? I now have heat on both sides. Can’t believe he saved me $2700 over the phone and the Ford dealer failed to diagnose the issue by looking at the car.  Will never take my car there again.

Great, glad to hear that you were able to get your problem solved without spending a ridiculous amount. I was pretty much convinced that there are no extra internal doors in the plenum (which your Ford service people were speculating about).  I had (a couple of years ago) an exploded view of the all the internals (not just the parts that show on the parts dealer site), but haven't been able to find it.  So I can't offer the evidence that the dealer story was BS.

Thanks for posting your resolution.
