maxrev
Think the bearing is bad on my 2016 fusion. Wondering how hard it is to replace, doesn't seem to bad. Figure I will need spring compressor but not sure. Any thoughts guys?
bangster
If it is like the Gen 1 and 1.5 then yes, you need to compress the spring safely to replace it. So when you turn the steering wheel lock to lock the strut bearing doesn't turn, and that is where you get noise or whatever you have happening?
maxrev
Yes it creaks something fierce when lock to lock, tried spraying lubricant from top area and as far as I could from underside and still does it. So I can't drop the strut enough to get the bearing plate off without compressing the strut?
bangster
Yes, it is between the upper mount and and the top of the strut and coil, removing the assembly from the car it is all together, and you have to compress the coils to get the upper mount off to get the bearing off. Personally I take them to a shop and have them do it for me, as no way I trust cheapo coil spring compressors for this style of spring. take in the strut assembly and part, and have them do it on a wall mounted spring compressor.
