sleepysam22
Good evening all, Just received a notice from my owner ford that my vehicle needs to be serviced for a powertrain control module reprogramming. Upon calling the dealer they confirmed that a reprogramming is necessary in to 2019 1.5 eco boost. Any techs on that know what this is all about? Have an appointment set for Monday 12/16/2019

sleepysam22
Currently at the dealer for this. They advised it is to reduce the pressure in the turbo and increase engine cooling. Was advised this will be a noticeable drivability issue as the reduction in turbo pressure will decrease power but not substantially. This is to prevent the potential for seals to be blown in the engine. I was under the impression that field notifications are not mandatory and when I went to decline the service I was advised that declining would mean the potential for no warranty coverage for a turbo related issue including my premium care warranty. Needless to say they are doing the reprogramming. I will advise of any noticeable performance once this is complete.
HolyRoller
Unfortunately, I just received the letter in the mail today. My car has been at the dealership since Tuesday morning because the CEL came on. Turns out to be coolant intrusion into cylinders 2&3 from a bad head design. Ford is installing a redesigned head in my car as I type this. I guess the original design has a coolant port between the 2&3 cylinders and the new design removes that port. Ironically, the dealership had my car about a month ago to check it for coolant intrusion and they found nothing at the time (car would blow white smoke upon a double downshift). Less than 2K miles later, they are rebuilding half the engine. Edited January 18, 2020 by HolyRoller
