Beeping during fast turns and going over 80mph

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, new Fusion owner here. I just purchased a 2019 SE AWD with 120 miles on it for $19,998 from Carmax a couple days ago. So far I'm really enjoying it except for one annoying issue I'm having. Every time I take a turn a little quick or my speed goes over 80mph (I cruise to work in the wee hours of the morning when the roads are empty, I can't help but speed) I get a beeping sound coming from what I think is the drivers door speaker. I do not have any MyKey's programmed, so there is no max speed limit set. The only thing I can figure it being is this vehicle was a fleet vehicle before it got minor hail damage and ended up at Carmax. Could the fleet company have had Ford program the computer to beep under these circumstances without having to program it to a MyKey? I would greatly appreciate any feedback and help on this. Thanks, guys.

Hi DruDee. A MyKey being programmed into the system is all I can think of. You followed the Owners Manual instructions and checked the Drivers Information Center to ensure a MyKey was not previously programmed to the car? If not, I would give that a look first.

Contacting Carmax may also help.

I guess there is always the possibility of some type of aftermarket system having been installed.  Discovering and diagnosing how to reprogram that will be more problematic.

Hopefully, one of our tech members will jump in with more information.  Keep us updated and good luck.

Yeah, I hove both key fobs and the car came from carmax without any MyKeys programmed. I programmed one just to play with it and then deleted it and now have two admin keys. Carmax seems pretty unaware of these specific systems from manufacturers in general in my experience. I wouldn't mind hearing from one of the tech members about this before going to a dealer so I don't waste money. My next step is contacting a Ford service center and seeing if they can take a look at the computer and see any programing that might have been done for the fleet company.

Hi DruDee. Forgot to mention...Welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum! ?

Yes, hopefully a tech member may have an answer.  If not...just as an FYI: You have a full 3 year/36,000 mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty. It will not cost any money to have a Dealer tech take a test drive with you so you can demonstrate the beeping. Hopefully he won't mind quick turns and driving at 80 mph. ?

If it is some sort of factory equipment/programming issue, it can be reprogrammed under warranty. If it is aftermarket, they probably can't do anything about it and will advise you find out who the manufacturer is and contact them.  Either way, there should normally be no charge. Just inform them not to do anything that will incur a charge, without contacting you first. Have it noted on the Invoice when you check in.

One silly but necessary question: There are no warning lights illuminating, even momentarily, when the beeping occurs?

Keep us updated and good luck.

bbf2530, thanks for the welcome and extra info. To answer your question, no, there are no lights that come on. I guess I better check in the engine bay and under the dash to see if I can find anything that doesn't look factory.

Also check the OBD-II diagnostic port for something plugged in or any wires that are tapped into it.

Nothing in the OBD-II port. I also don't see anything aftermarket under the hood.

Hi DruDee. Unless one of our tech members has any insight, then it unfortunately looks like it will necessitate a service appointment.

Keep us updated and good luck.

You aren't too likely to see anything aftermarket under the hood - more likely under the dash at left.

Do you have a dashcam installed with LDW etc?

Was this vehicle in a collision that deployed the airbag?

I'm not saying this applies to your car but in the 2000-2006 Lincoln LSes, when the instrument cluster was removed and reinstalled without reconfiguring it properly,  a series of 10 beeps would sound at 80 mph and in Reverse also, which, apparently, your car doesn't do.  This was an anti-odometer tampering feature but also functioned as a reminder if an IC had been R&R'd for repair.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

I was going to check behind the dash, but its been quite cold here in KC, MO, so I'm waiting for warmer weather to take a look while I hard-wire my dashcam.

Yes, I have LDW and Adaptive Cruise Control. The vehicle has not been in a collision to my knowledge, nothing on the history report or reported by Carmax. It did have non-title hail damage reported by the auction firm on the history, I can only find two tiny dings with the right light shining on them.

I don't think the cluster has been removed, but who knows. Also, it's not a series of 10 beeps, it just beeps constantly until it goes back under 80. And like you said, it doesn't happen in reverse.
